Guitar Player's Thread

you guys, I think this was the best night of my life! I didn't get to meet PG, but just seeing him in person is enough. I actually cried a little when he played The Gargoyle (but shh, don't tell anyone :p) I was so lucky to be all the way up in front, when I actually came a little late. but I was lucky ppl moved away, so I pushed forward and took the front row, hehe. Anyways, I'll just quote myself from the Racer-X forum:

Moonshield said:
Indeed! It was a fabulous show, with a great ending. And I saw Paul's wife for the first time, she's a very cute little thing! I'm so happy for them to be playing and touring together. I have tonnes of videos and pictures, but it's all on my dad's phone cuz I don't have a new one yet.

I wasn't too familiar with Richie Kotzen, and once I saw him tonight, I decided he's nothing great, I mean his solo stuff. I really disliked his vocals (Paul really beats him in that department I think, and of course guitar) but his playing was of course good.

Billy Sheehan fuckin' rocked! I never expected to see him live, so that was a great surprise.

And goddamn, seeing Paul in person is just unbelievable. I was lucky and got to be right up in the front row of the pit, there were a lot of older people there and I don't think they could stand for such a long time, so when they left, I immediatly pushed for their spot, haha. Anyway, Paul's truly such a happy person. It shines right thru. He's always smiling on stage and loves his fans and most of all, he LOVES to play. I'm really debating now whether he's my favorite guitarist or Alexi Laiho, cuz Laiho always took the lead in my book, but after seeing Paul, I feel like I know him better and he's just so fucking amazing.

sorry for the rant guys, as soon as I can have my dad's phone again, I'll try to get some videos up. its pretty good visual quality since I was right up there, but the sound sucks of course.

oh and here's the set-list, as posted by another member:
Hurry Up
Curse Of Castle Dragon
Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar
Eudamonia Overture
Norwegian Cowbell
I Still Have That Other Girl
Bronx 1971
Scarified
I Cannot Tell A Lie
Green Tinted 60's Mind
Technical Difficulties
Suite Modale
THE GARGOYLE (EPIC TRANSITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Bultaco Saturno
Down to Mexico
-end set-

Then as Jeff said already the VERY surprising encore with none other than THE Billy Sheehan!

30 Days In The Hole (Richie on vocals)
then Richie left the stage and came out Mike Szuter
Daddy Brother Lover Little Boy
then Billy left and Mike took over the bass once again
Long Live Rock

the end.

thanks for the responses guys. i will keep it yellow. i'm contemplating painting my other 7 string RG hot pink or bright green

in regards to the dark colours whatever, i have owned way too many black/dark coloured guitars over the years so yeah

This video is awesome, i like his tone when he's using his tagima.

I seriously think ill go for one...it's gonna be my uber-metalcore guitar.

I'm in a bit of a predicament,

I'm on way working hard and earning money over the next week or two to maybe afford this guitar. http://1484.bz/c/38313/ The full price and everything is about 1668.00 USD. They don't make these guitars any more and it's one of the last if not, THE LAST in stock. I passed up on it once, but I'm really wondering do you guys thing I should just spend all my money on this and be broke after that for a couple weeks? It's a very nice guitar and I'll definitely have enough Rhoads, but what do you guys think? :err: If you put yourself in my situation. Not just saying, YEAH BUY IT BECAUSE IT LOOKS AWESOME. I mean I will literally be living pretty scummish for a couple weeks if I buy this haha. What to do... what to do...?:bah:

I got only one thing to say, Andrew. DO IT! Its the same price that it would be if i would import one from japan to finland anyway. That is a really nice guitar with great possibilities with the gainboost and stuff. 2 weeks living on a tight budget is nothing if you get it...it will ALL be worth it in the end. I suffered for over 2 months in a goddamned greenhouse for a amp and to replace the money i lost when getting my RR24.

I was wondering if i get that schecter i was linking above the post i quoted that i will afford somekinda equipment because i will most probably use about 1000€...i was wondering. Is Boss BR-600 something to get?
BOSS+BR+600+PACK+SHURE.JPG
I dont think it has any effects or anything so how would i get distortion when recording? Or would a Line6 POD just be better?:)

I could possibly mic my Randall RH50T up with that recorder...i dunno how tho im sure miccing up can be a bitch.

Hey guys i need some Input, I am messing around writing and recording some tunes for my new melodic death band I'm putting together.
Im messing around with different guitar tones and with different drum samples

Here are two versions of the same song, On Mix2 the Rhythm guitar tone is different and also the Kick and Snare drum samples.

Mix1:

Mix2:

Let me know what Guitar tone, kick drum, and snare drum you like better.

I like Mix2 better for guitars and snare but im not really happy with the kick sample on either

My brother has the black version of that... the rosewood looks pretty shitty clsoeup  Also, it's a lot! heavier than my LTD MH400NT, i much prefer the LTD over it - but i like that red finish.

Well i got to see. Could be the 2008 model is better. Rosewood IMO almost always looks a bit erk but yeah...i dont really like LTDs at all because the neck is too narrow for me.

Yeah I almost bought one of them... Until I realised that the Washburn X50 PROFE was exactly the same specs, about half the price and had a transparent black flamed maple top (I have a thing for flamed maple tops. Both my guitars have em :p)

Yeah could be the washburn is worth looking into. I really don't need another FR guitar now so i checked some guitars and saw this one and i was like "WOW HOLY FUCK!" I instantly thought it had some resemblence to your washburn. Which is not a bad thing because i really like it...im not that big fan of the headstock though. I like the Schecter one more. Anyway how does the EMG 81/85 combo sound?

I see alot of people use Hellraisers...alot of bands also.

Well with the EMG 85/81 set and a Mahogany body you can't really go wrong. They're great for stupidly bassy heavy bollocks and nice brighter sounds. I generally have Bass on 10, Mids about 7ish (turned 3/4 round) and treble on 5 and I get a really nice fat warm tone for soloing with the bridge but a nice brighter tone for riffing with the neck pickup.

PS: thats with a Roland Cube 20x... I doubt bass on 10 would be that great with a huge fucking tube stack

My bass is on 3:lol: Ill probably have to edit away some with my MXR  Yeah but the schecter would really be my uber riff guitar so it needs t3h chunks. I wonder if the coil split will allow some nicer cleans too... It seems so nice. I really love the paintjob.

Just incase anyone wanted to learn it...

It's not 100% complete but I'd be confident in saying that it's over 95% accurate. Enjoy.

excellent job dude, i liked the first one more it was more raw and more in to the face
the second mix is nice and with that reverb you pushed it back and created alot of headroom for something to lead but there is nothing leading also you don't like the kick on it cause it has tooo many highs comparing to the rest of the max so it sticks out reduce the highs and it will be just fine.

They don't need to make a video, this is good enough

:lol: Fucking agreed, it rocks,

But what Mitch posted rocks too, :ill:

This video is awesome, i like his tone when he's using his tagima.

He's a really good player, he should get more recognisement IMO.

:OMG::OMG::OMG: Now I understand why you say the EMG 81 sounds bassy and muddy!!! With a fucking 15 W Academy I have bass 7, mids 5 and trebble 7! And well, on the half stack I have mids 5-6, trebble 7 and bass on 3, And when I play with the Ibanez the neck p-up starts to feel bassy for my taste with that settings,

EDIT: Why the fuck is PG so fucking great and so funny on stage??

Have you heard the tone from my amp? Not to fucking mention, I always said that the 81 sounded TOO TREBLEY I didn't say anything about bass or muddiness. Get it right.

Also I have the gain low and I don't have it on the "Metal Stack" setting, (ie the setting with most distortion/gain ect ect). I find it better to have it on a more "rock" tone and then beef it up from there.
