How about a friendly guitar tone competition?

I hope this bastards will deliver my Framus Dragon cab soon... I ordered it on 4/4 from Thomann...
This would be a good way to see what I can do with it.
(but I'm participating anyway ofcourse!)

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I think all the seperate tracks for poll should be numbered and anonymous to provent any biases (i.e. a,b,c etc.) and the order/owner of the tracks is listed at the end of the contest.

Yup, has been mentioned a couple of times. I will be the only one who knows who made which track until the end.

Here is the link to download the package with the needed files, and further information:

If you find anything wrong with the link or the content let me know and I'll work things out. Participants have until monday 27th to send me their work. Expect a new thread where you can vote on your favorites then! You can still post in this thread though, anything related to the competition.

*edit*

I just PMed all the participants. You can no longer enter the competition.

Bring on the tones!

questions:

- so do you want 2 or 3 files? mixdown and guitars as stereobounce or or separate files?
- what volume should we aim to? -0dBFS?
- what is the format we should return the files in? Is 256 kbps mp3 ok or do you want 24bit 48k wavs? should we agree on this for the sake of consistency?

two observations

the Bass and Kit Tracks are at 96K

the two gtr DI tracks are at 44.1K and the volume is really low.

Oh boy.... I apologize for the confusion. I thought I accounted for everything.

- I asked for 2 recordings in the readme, so thats two files. Maybe I wasn't clear enough though.
- Not sure, the volume your files were at was fine for me.
- I was generally expecting the highest possible quality files. If you want to set a particular quality, thats fine with me though.

The Bass and Drums should both be 44.1, 24 bit. That's how I rendered them out of Reason.

I just checked this and you're right. I think Tracktion automatically converted them when I checked the files if they would work. I'll upload your original files to here now I guess.

In the mean time could someone tell me why it is a problem if they are at different 44.1/96k?

What song are we doing?

Riff from Blackwater park.

link to bass and kit tracks at 44.1k are in this post now. I don't see why volume would be a problem since I wrote in the readme its fine to adjust the volumes.

I didn't state it was a problem, I said two observations. I was just letting you know. :)

it's not a problem, but I was surprised they are so low.

I'm just giving feedback that the sample rate and volume level was not what I expected.

My bad, I misunderstood. If something is a problem though I´d like to know so I can fix is asap.

As requested by Ahj, here are some guidelines regarding the volume.

- Faders at -6.00 dbFS for both bass and drums (or -18 dB RMS if you think the bass or the drums are too loud for your taste)
- Max -13 dB RMS for the mixdown and solo guitars

Regarding the format:

24bit 44khz wav is preferred.

I'd appreciate it if you'd follow these guidelines, would save me the trouble of matching the volumes later. If you already submitted your work, don't worry I'll make the adjustments for you.
