I'm all for more of these tournaments, be they for old school death, classic metal or debuts. If nothing else, they help me kill some spare time and are mildly entertaining, but most importantly, they give me the inspiration to revisit or discover albums I otherwise might have forgotten.

actually i have an idea for how to level the playing field slightly but it would be more work for the person(s) who ran it. when voting for an album you could assign it a point value (say from 1-3) based on how much you like it/think it beats the other album by...thus lesser-appreciated albums with a few devoted fans would have a better chance against That One Album Everybody Knows?

just a thought...might be nice to split up the work if we decide to complicate the system...

well say we have something like:
Drudkh - Blood in our Wells vs. Novembers Doom - The Pale Haunt Departure

for me drudkh blows novembers doom out of the water here, so i would vote "drudkh - 3" or something like that

then we might have something like:
Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars vs. Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness

say this is a tough choice for me, but i think hard and narrow it down to wolves in the throne room, so i would vote "WitTR - 1"

and then instead of tallying just votes, you tally the points. this way you still keep the tournament format cuz you're scoring each album relative to its opponent.
