Are you kidding? *scratching head*

The songs translated incredibly well into the live setting as well.

*shaking head*

Well Mr Nice... I don't know .. I will agree that the songs were great live but I don't like Clayman... I can't really explain why... I just don't like it that is all. It's all a matter of taste but I can't even pin-point what I dislike about this one!

I think that what got me tired of In flames is their tendency to recycle riffs and sound fuckin' redundant... I still think that Jester Race, Colony and Whoracle were good albums but they were the same album ...

I need more variety... wich is something I get with bands like Testament, Annihilator, Helloween...

When anyone says 'Mr. Nice' ....I think of Megadeth's cover of
"No More Mr. Nice Guy".....wasn't that the vid where Mustaine was
high on coke getting electrocuted by an electric chair?

I don't know .. I will agree that the songs were great live but I don't like Clayman... I can't really explain why... I just don't like it that is all.
Okee dokee.

They were the same album? You mean, with 3 different titles?
Blimey! They stole that idea off Iced Earth and I was too dim to see it
until you pointed it out! thanks! You get +10 Originality Points.:)

I need more variety... wich is something I get with bands like Testament, Annihilator, Helloween...
<sarcasm> You mention your need variety, yet you are an Iced Earth and Annihilator fan? :D </sarcasm>

I know that Iced Earth is the last when it comes to originality and variety but what are you implying about Annihilator??? They've got 9 albums out ... soon to be 10 and I don't hear any album sounding the same... Some songs are rip-offs of others but I don't think that qualifies as lack of variety considering the extent of Annihilator's catalogue! WHen you speak about in flames... you talk about a band that has 6 full-lenght albums and about as much of EPs... and those albums have 12 songs tops! Graveland and Morphing Into Primal and the same fucking song... the production on each albums is basicly the same too... Jester Race is just more interresting as it is a bit rawer! COlony and Whoracle have the same sound.

Yes in flames have a couple of kickass songs but still... they are not one of my favorite band but I still think they are decent.

As for my taste in general... I do like some of the bands that are well known for their lack of originality (AC/DC, Iced Earth, Maiden...) but as I said, it all comes to taste... I'm a sucker for rockin' AC/DC tunes... I can't help but headbang to Iced Earth fast as fuck gallop riffs... Nor can I help whisling those maiden melodic leads... I like them that'S all... In Flames I don't!

I'd really like to hear why you said annihilator doesn't have variety... I'm curious about that :)

*Please note that written messaging has the tendency to make someone look pissed when they aren't... I'm just debating my opinion wich is, to me, as good/as bad as yours so my post isn't pejorative*

*Larf03 gives a beer to OfficerNice because this oughta be a good debate...*

How can you say Whroacle and Colony are basically the same album? They changed half of their line-up and changed the direction they were heading in. I mean, Whoracle relies on straight-up metal riffs and their trademark melodies start-to-finish... but Colony shows a fair bit of experimentation, with all the clean vocals and catchy chrouses.

I'm not looking forward to the new In Flames... esp. after hearing Watch Them Feed. I hope they start doing more classical and acoustic stuff again... or even more stuff like Metaphor (really cool instruments but I think the singing is a bit much).

Well we all know that the line-up argument isn't that important since In Flames is basically just Jesper and Bjorn...

As for whoracle and colony I said they were produced the same way... that have the same sound! As for the composition... yes there are stand out tunes like ordinary story... But I think the rest of the album is still pretty much the same as it's two predecessor...

I think In Flames first evolved from Subterranean to jester Race ...then started the flatline up to Colony and they started evolving again with Clayman on wich they used "snarlier" vocal in the verses but ...somewhat clean choruses (pinball map) ...

You know it and I know it, but nobody's told John Schaffer.

but what are you implying about Annihilator???
The songs all sound the same, except with different members playing.

They've got 9 albums out ... soon to be 10 and I don't hear any album sounding the same...
Quite a few of them sound the same, actually. I'm not implying they're not
any good, just very similar. Waters and Schaffer = egotistical assholes.
Who changes lineups faster? Annihilator or Iced Earth?
The only band that changes lineups faster these days is Vicious Rumors.
You didn't think Alice in Hell and Never, Neverland sounded the same?
Interesting. And I'm starting from ground zero. King of the Kill and Criteria for
a Black Widow sound exactly the same.

Some songs are rip-offs of others but I don't think that qualifies as lack of variety considering the extent of Annihilator's catalogue!
Your statement creates your contradiction. You said In Flames recycles
their riffs and I get the impression you're implying Annihilator doesn't, yet
here you've admitted they do. I could argue you that In Flames songs have
tons of variety since Colony and Whoracle and Clayman and RRTR don't
all sound the same.

WHen you speak about in flames... you talk about a band that has 6
full-lenghth albums and about as much of EPs... and those albums have 12 songs tops!
So you're saying that Annihilator has more albums out because they've
been around longer than In Flames? Yes, I agree. What are you saying?

Jester Race is just more interresting as it is a bit rawer!
Jesters Race is a fucking death metal (add a dash of melody) classic.
It's perfection handed down by the metal gods.

Colony and Whoracle have the same sound.
They were written very close to together and recorded in the same studios
and produced by the same guy, with some co-production by the IF guys
so I can definitely see why you'd say they sound the same, so I say that
If my information is correct, I could see why. I love both of those albums.
Colony and Whoracle are awesome albums. They may change little things
on their sound here and there but they've never strayed from the core
of what makes In Flames unique and tr00 and br00tal but there's no way
Whoracle and Colony sound the same. "Insipid 2000" does not sound
the same as "World within the Margin" so I'm blind to understand your
comparison. But I've argued that Annihilator sounds the same. We're
at an 'oranges and apples' kind of discussion.

They are not one of my favorite band but I still think they are decent.
That's decent of you.

As for my taste in general... I do like some of the bands that are well known for their lack of originality (AC/DC, Iced Earth, Maiden...)
WHAT? *Head spinning in circles like the Exorcist*
AC/DC with Bon Scott was very, very original. BON OWNS.
Iron Maiden before "No Prayer For the Dying" was very, very original.
We're talking *tttttoooooooooo* many classic, original songs to list here.

it all comes to taste... I'm a sucker for rockin' AC/DC tunes... I can't help but headbang to Iced Earth fast as fuck gallop riffs... Nor can I help whisling those maiden melodic leads... I like them that'S all... In Flames I don't!
That's fine. I didn't say there was anything wrong. Schaffer steals his
riffs. So does Waters. They could be galloping, but many bands have
galloping riffs. No argument there. I love old ACDC and IM and IMO there's
no better British Metal than JUDAS PRIEST. HALFORD _IS_ THE METAL GOD.

I'd really like to hear why you said annihilator doesn't have variety... I'm curious about that
cause all their albums are written by Waters right? Him and Schaffer
have egotistical asshole "I'm a guitar player and a visionary" bollocks
going on. Waters gets new members every 18 months and recycles the
last record and calls it a masterpiece. Uh Yeah.

*Please note that written messaging has the tendency to make someone look pissed when they aren't... I'm just debating my opinion wich is, to me, as good/as bad as yours so my post isn't pejorative*
Right. You didn't push the anger button, (Calling New Exodus Nu-Metal Aggro
Wigger music) so there's no rage. I'm chillin like a villain.

I'm putting the definition of pejorative in this post since this forum is a gossip
column and most people think I'm full of hot air. Now, there's some
educational benefit. Thanks for the word, dude.

Actually... you lost me again... I will agree with you that King of the Kill and Refresh the Demon are similar to some extent but King and Criteria??? Damn ...King of the Kill sounds like an angry hard rock album compared to the thrash masterpiece that is criteria! Criteria is much much more speed oriented where King is way more groovy... As for Alison Hell and Never Neverland... I don't see the similarities either... I would compare Alison to Criteria actually... For the speed of both and the line-up too... Neverland is a thrash metal masterpiece and nothing sounds like it in my book... But it MAY be my feelings talking here... I don't know...

I was actually just stating a statistical fact... I think that the proportion of recycling in Annihilator's music is less considerable as they have more songs but then you think they have more songs that sound the same... so I guess this argument is a bad one ...

Cheers to you too! When all is said and done... I'm still gonna give a listen to Sountrack to your Escape...

Not much time, Super Bowl is starting pretty soon.
I'll be as focused as time will permit.

Actually... you lost me again... I will agree with you that King of the Kill and Refresh the Demon are similar to some extent but King and Criteria???
yes.

Damn ...King of the Kill sounds like an angry hard rock album compared to the thrash masterpiece that is criteria!
Whoa! An Annihilator album being called a masterpiece! You must know
Jeff Waters! :)

Criteria is much much more speed oriented where King is way more groovy...
it is? oh. I didnt hear any. I'll take your word for it. seriously.

Neverland was good, the mix was just waaaaay flat. No meat, no muscle.
It was decent in my book, but bland. The crunch sounded like what happens
to coke when it loses the carbonation and goes flat.

Here is what I feel... Jester Race --- Whoracle ...huge similarities
Whoracle --- Colony ...Still some ...especially in the production
Mos Def. (Most Definitely) That was what they were doing. The style,
the writing and the production are all the same thang, but the songs
aren't idenitical. They're different. You are correct, All very similar.
I'd regard them as similar as I would regard "Ride The Lightning" and
"Master of Puppets" similar. Follow me?

Colony ---- Clayman ...Vocals changed a bit...production
is more interresting
Mos Def.

Clayman ---- R2R ... They went mainstream...I think R2R is
Korn trying to do Death metal
Mos Def. I agree with the mainstream comment about RRTR. BUT,
and this is the proverbial BUT, they didnt get soft, like Metallica.
I think the direction they were leaning towards, allowed them to be
much more accessible. I see so much like, for the lack of a better
description, psychedelic acid groove mellow-osity kind of brutal metal
vibe. Er? Yes, that's what I meant. Yes. I dont think Clayman is mainstream
and I couldnt say a word either way about Korn. Don't follow them.

I agree... it's one hell of an album! It's been in my collection since it came out and I have three editions of it :p
Three Ed's?

Wait a minute here... I said that those band were regarded as recyclers... I, for one, have an extended knowledge of these bands so I KNOW that AC/DC with Bon ruled! ANd I know that there are some pretty experimental maiden albums! X-Factor is one hell of an album in my opinion... so is No Prayer but most fans wouldn't agree cuz they are to buzzy going oh oh oh in the trooper!
Oh Oh Oh.
'No Prayer' was decent, but mediocre at best. Jannick Gers is a so-so
player. Many bad songs on that disc like 'Holy Smoke'....c'mon....from
the same people who did "Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" and
"Rime of The Ancient Mariner"....doesn't add up. Blaze has a great voice,
and he's a great singer IMO, and I thought X was a good cd too, but I
didn't like Virtual XI. I dont know why you think of IM as a recycler, but
I misunderstood you some.

I prefer Maiden to Judas Priest cuz I think JP has too many fillers on some albums... BUT Screaming, British, Defenders and Painkiller are Untouchable!!!
There a couple along the way, but I dont know which ones you're talking
about. Some people say "Locked In" or "Hot Rockin" but I love those too!

Uh... I have met the two individuals and I'd say without hesitation that Schaffer is an egotistical fucker and he is a self-centered cockstar er... rockstar... but Jeff is a very cool and down to earth guy... I don't know how he is as a business man
If he's so down to earth, why does everyone quit all the time. Randy
quit like, what?....3 times?

*wears baggy pants and takes a hip pose while listenning to culling the herd* ;)
HA HA. OH OH OH....THE TROOPER.

...Actually she's great! I'd love to read her take on this matter... I don't have any problem with her and whe's welcome to state her opinion anyday as she's a very intelligent and strong girl... You know why you guys fight so easily? Because you're both intelligent and have strong personalities!
I'd beg to differ.I like her and I have nothing against her. I was trying
to help her on her spelling and grammar and she flipped out on me and
I don't know why. A bunch of bollocks really. I dont get why she's being
such a pain in the arse. I was doing her a favor. The other day I was ripping
the piss out of her and she took the knock on me like 3 times and I tried to
talk to her about it and she was in denial the whole time and I was getting
pretty hacked off. I do the same rippin' with everyone on UM.
Look at the threads, I'm not exaggerating. Whatever though.
DL never makes an opinion about anything in relations to music or bands
or tours or songs or anything. All she does is crawl up my ass and try to
play "Mother Superior" with me when threads get heated and it's just
bollocks. If I need a "that's great" or "Glad you had a good time" or
"great pics" or "Thanks a million DE" or a "you go, girl"...I'll call on DL.
Cheerleaders and Vanna White types always serve a purpose sometime or
another. Otherwise, I dont see how she could offer this discussion anything.

Well, it's FOOTBALL TIME. Gotta go.

Cheers to you too!
Cheers....MORE beers.

When all is said and done... I'm still gonna give a listen to Sountrack to your Escape...
AWESOME. EVERYONE SHOULD.
