You're referring to me? I dunno, I just don't hear it. Heavy technical thrash is what I would call them.

For instance, no one will question that Immolation's Dawn of Possession is death metal. But Atheist? That's not entirely clear.

No, @threadstarter

of course YESSSS!!!!!!!

but Death's music is very special related to their music
cause I wouldn't describe it as typical 'Death-metal' like Cannibal corpse or Morbid angel, it's more Progressive/Death-metal with a high technical level and Chuck's singing is (on Symbolic) not typical death-growling anymore

for me their music doesn't really fit in any genre cause I love that band.. :worship:

Maybe Elements (but that is unmitigated shit so who cares what it is), but Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence are undeniably DM.

I call Atheist Technical jazz thrash death metal.

Wouldn't go that far.
But it's great. It's probably my favorite guitar album. The shredding on it is brilliant.

Dude, the guitar playing & shredding on Individual Thought Patterns is lightyears beyond that on TSoP. I don't even think progressive when I hear that album. When I think progressive I think Atheist, Symphony X, Opeth, Spiral Architect, Dream Theater, old Genesis, blahblahblah. TSoP just sounds pretty straightforward to my ears, but I dunno.

Is Megadeth considered thrash metal?

is judas priest considered heavy metal?

options:

  • a) yeah
  • b) no doubt
  • c) of course
  • d) no, cuz i'm a retarded fuckin' troll

Yes they are... not compared to modern power metal but they were pioneers.

No they fucking aren't. Judas Priest define traditional standard heavy metal. Surely they had an influence on power, and even had an album or two that leaned more strongly in that direction, but they are definitely not power metal.

still has some power metal sound in it. Anyway I didn't say they were power metal, I said they were pioneers of it, then of course other bands shaped it into what it is today.
