maudlin of the Well / Kayo Dot

I do know that FuSoYa (I think that's his name) said something to the effect of "Your scene sucks" or something like that. I'm sure it's in some thread somewhere. And I know MOTW and the Opeth boards had a few spats a while ago.

Does anyone know the whole fiasco with Dark Symphonies? I've only heard that the label refuses to repress the CDs because they are pissed at the band.Maybe the band

Like I said before, slagging the metal scene is nothing new. We all do it. It has its good points and its bad points. It just irks me when musicians based in the metal scene start slagging it because they want to be separated from it. And this after their main fanbase is in the metal scene. If they want to cut the cord from the metal scene, fine, but is their reason to bash it? And yeah, some of Haughm's comments irked me a bit too.

Maybe MOTW got a bad experence with Dark Symphonies and took it out on the metal scene, and that's why they signed with John Zorn's label.

I may be taking things way out of context here, because like I said, I've only heard half the story.

BTW, did Ulver bash the scene in any way when they started doing that ambient stuff?

Their lyrics have always been astounding, probably since they have a seperate lyricist instead of some dude saying "okay we need words for this part." Reminds me of King Crimson with Peter Sinfield even. :D Actually, that's the one group I compare motW and especially Kayo Dot to, since they have an impressive forward thinking sound.

I would have to concur with you on this one although you're a dirty kike.

One Inch Kike.

BWD if you're having trouble finding Bath let me know, there's been a copy gathering dust at my local music store for ages.

PS: YOU REALLY NEED THAT ONE IT'S THE FIRST HALF OF YOUR AVATAR.

Alright I'm heading down that way tomorrow morning, might want to bump this thread around 10am Pacific Time. :D

I cannot get into Bath as much ....
I prefer it to LYBM, but then again you can't really separate the two. LYBM is like Bath conked in the head, or something. Bath has Heaven and Weak OMG SO AWESOME!!!111six

Having been a motw/kd fan for a while now, and seen a number of interviews and had time to digest both Greg (Baliset) and Toby (FuSoYa) 's ideas, I can tell you they aren't slamming metal, they are trying to explain how they are trying to broaden their sound by including more influences than just what is considered traditional or blessed by some so-called experts. Greg is explicit in his admiration for Blind Guardian, and Toby was photoed a while back performing in his Monsters of Rock tee

I can tell you most emphatically that if experimentation = pretentiousness to you, then at least with these guys (and mia) you are dead wrong. They are the most genuine bunch, most of them take an active participation in their board and interact as just folks with their fans (NAD KNOWS THIS! If you guys had been following the corpse flower stunt, it may have been the funniest thing I've ever seen on a msg board). That goes along way in my book. Generally I hate anything remotely avante artsy fartsy so if that is your perception, take it from someone who knows how you feel, I was surprised and gratified to see how much I like especially Choirs of the Eye. I see, however, that this band is not for everyone...and somehow, that is a very good thing.

BWD: Mia just posted a msg saying they still have copies of Psychobells, for $10. check the board for the address. It's their first album and maybe like most first albums taking first steps, but if you are going to have the other three, there's no good earthly reason not to have this one.

I prefer Bath to LYBM, by the slightest of margins and because it has the song that was their SOLD! point for me, Birth Pains of Astral Projection. NAD: I haven't seen a Maudlin album in a store to this day, even when looking under Dot, Kayo. :)

The other three? I hope you counted Kayo Dot in the 3's , did you *nervous laugh in case I missed one of theirs*

Yeah, my local independent music store has a grindcore section, which basically comes down to all things death metal, and some (like the two bands mentioned) that don't fit. By the way, there's another independent store that has it's own seperate PROG SECTION. If you ever come to So. Calfornia I'll point you in the right direction.

 Here, I'm currently crapping my pants over this, some pre-motW material: http://www.kayodot.net/spoonion/

Hmm , fortunately I'm not obssessed with any band's pre-material , maybe I'll check it , maybe not , and wasn't MFP .. a seed combustible a kind of demo?

My Fruit was like a collection of songs from various college projects, if I'm not mistaken. That would explain the uneven consistency, and although I rarely listen to that album it's not bad or anything.

I listened to a song or to from Spoonion, it's at least interesting. :)
