Mellow Opeth

Good growling vocals sound just as natural to me as good clean vocals. I think the problem is people are so use to listening to something specific it affects other music. Anything can be normal when you get use to it.

If someone listens to just slow music or music at a certain speed fast music is going to sound like noise. If a person just listens to fast music slow music is going to seem to slow.

Am I the only person who is really into the mellow Opeth (ie regular singing, like Damnation) and not the "swallow the microphone" annoying singing. They're just such an amazingly talented band I don't understand why they screw it up with crappy vocals. Just wondering if I'm alone?

I kind of hate you...

I love Damnation, Åkerfeldt has an amazing ''clean'' singing voice, and his growls are great too.

I have been listening a lot of slower bands like Antimatter and Klimt 1918, i love that kind of music, i hope that someday Opeth will make another album like Damnation.

I agree that the mellow stuff is ten times better than the aggressive stuff. I like teh vocals both ways but musically their soft side is just so much more enjoyable.

I agree, and would add Byrne to my list. How anyone could think Michael Åkerfeldt or Devin Townsend are crappy vocalists have completely fucked ears and should stop listening to music altogether.

I hate him because he sounds incompetant and said growling was stupid...

I hear this so often. From my girlfriend, etc. The growling is dumb, etc. Opeth is by far one of my favorite bands of all time. Why can't people understand bands like Opeth (abeit, not ALL of them) don't growl just to sound evil and just for the sake of growling. The way I see it and realized it is that it's there for emotional value. It expresses anger, confusion and all sorts of emotions.

I absolutely adore it.

That said, I really love Damnation as well. It's one of my favorite albums.

Devin Townsend sucks balls. Deal with it. Put yourself and this foum out of misery and do as your handle suggests - go embrace death.

Get out!!

I don't listen to Damnation at all. Åkerfeldt's growls are possibly the best around, I can't believe you'd say such a thing.
I'm sorry, but you're an idiot

and indeed, Damnation is Opeth's undoubtably best album
they do have amazing songs there..
I also like black water park despite the growls, I can tolerate them
hope they'd make another album like Damnation..!
