most solid metal album of 2007 so far?

So at the halfway mark of 2007, what is everyone's "official" albums of 2007 thus far? Also what are some disappointments? I'll post mine in a bit...

I stand by Machine Head - The Blackening as my fave album of 2007 thus far. If you've hated the band before, thats fine but for all intents and purposes, these guys have re-invented themselves. And if you're American, thats another plus for liking the album and what it touches on. But I'll STFU, I'm not good at persuasion.

Nice to see Kamelot and DT's latest albums getting a lot of love here though.

If I had to pick a non-metal album as best of 07, it would definitely be Porcupine Tree's "Fear of a Blank Planet", fucking depressing but I just can't put it down.

Blood Tsunami's "Thrash Metal" just kicked my ass. I knew I could count on these guys to release something great as soon as I heard their '05 Demo.

My favorite 2007 album so far. (Though I still haven't heard many.)

I'd agree (as a thrash fanatic)

But Behemoth's The Apostacy and Marduk's Romans 5:12 are really sweet to.

That album was a flowing river of shit with a couple of herpes viruses rafting down it on a toothpick raft.

It's impressive visually but it's a craptastrophy of an album. Every minute that Robb Flynn is in "Machine Head" he disgraces himself and destroys the honour of his past in Vio-lence. Someone needs to punch him in the fucking balls.

I’ve listen to quite a bit of albums this year despite being rather busy at times. I’ve still got tons left to listen to and explore if time permits. I've listened to far more albums than what's listed here, but these are one that I'm most familiar with though I know I'm forgetting a lot. I'll update the list soon enough when I get around to it but this will do for now.

This year’s best:
Zombie Girl - Blood, Brains & Rock ‘N’ Roll
Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me
Naglfar - Harvest
Gurtholfinn - The Forest of Long Awaiting (Demo)

Worthwhile albums:
Akercocke - Antichrist
God Module - Let’s Go Dark
Shining - V Halmstad
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
Graveland - Will Stronger Than Death
Lunar Aurora - Andacht
Marduk - Rom 5:12
N.I.L. - N.I.L.
Peste Noire - Folkfuck Folie (not bad but disappointing)
Infernal War - Desekration
Sauron - The Channeling Void
Sarpanitum - Despoilment of Origin
Nile - Ithyphallic
Drawn and Quartered - Merciless Hammer of Lucifer
The County Medical Examiners - Olidous Operettas
Requiem - Premier Killing League
Susperia - Cut From Stone

Good/Average Albums:
Astarte - Demonized
Throne of Katarsis - An Eternal Dark Horizon
Kalot Enbolot - MCCCXLVII
Lord Belial - Revelation
Pantheon I - The Wanderer and His Shadow
One Man Army and the Undead Quartet - Error in Evolution
Six Feet Under - Commandment
Dying Fetus - War of Attrition
Thurisaz - Circadian Rhythm

Albums I didn’t care for:
Barastir - Battlehymns of Hate
Rotting Christ - Theogonia
Tulus - Biography Obscene
Profanatica - Profanatitas de Domonatia
Black Funeral - Waters of Weeping
Behemoth - The Apostasy
Graveworm - Collateral Defect
Vital Remains - Icons of Evil
Samael - Solar Soul
DevilDriver - The Last Kind Words
Kittie - Funeral for Yesterday
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
Acephalous - Divine Purity
Blood of the Black Owl - Blood of the Black Owl
Sombre Chemin - Hétérodoxie: Opus I (EP)...what happened? Very disappointing.

Haha, well thats a brutal way to put it.

Vio-lence, a great band... but lots of hate for Flynn there huh?
Its obvious you listen good metal in general, so what do consider the worst things about the album? Even if you have to ignore Flynn to get to it. None of that, "this fucking sucks" criticism though.

His lyrics were pussy lyrics.

The one catchy song started like "FUCK YOU ALL!!!!". I listen to alot of punk, so it got me listening. Then Robb went vagina and started whispering "I hate myself  " Ick.

It may be an improvement, but so was Kruschev replacing Stalin. Less crap, but it still wasn't democracy. Machine head may have gone "Towards" true metal, but i'll be singing in the streets about it when they ACTUALLY do.

Best of 2007 so far that I've heard:

Dark Tranquillity - Fiction
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
Marduk - Rom 5:12
Mayhem - Ordo Ad Chao
N.I.L. - N.I.L.
Naglfar - Harvest
Watain - Sworn to the Dark

I have been seeing a lot of praise for the new Marduk. i must say i am suprised. If I happen to see it somewhere should I pick it up? Is it good, or just good for Marduk?

Candlemass-King of the Grey Islands
Paradise Lost-In Requiem
Amorphis-Silent Waters

Mithras-Behind The Shadows Lie Madness
I really don't care what anybody says about this album, I fucking love it.

I think Naglfar - Harvest is the only completely solid album of '07 I've heard so far. There have been plenty of excellent releases, but to me Harvest is the only one that's totally flawless. I have high hopes for Arch Enemy's release in September. I can't wait to hear the new vocal style on this album.

Do you think it's depressing, when most of your favourite albums this year are by bands who have produced much better albums in the past?

I hated Fiction incidentally, it's easily DT's worst and the forerunner for my biggest disappointment of the year, along with Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet.

My favourite so far this year is Mithras' Behind the Shadows Lie Madness. But I haven't heard that many albums yet.
