It's the best Hardcore/Punk/Metal mixture I've heard, the album is really damn good, but it can get boring after some time because of the short songs (alot of them are just under 3 minutes...). I wouldn't call it underrated though - Mary Beats Jane won the Swedish Grammy in the category "Best Punk/Hardcore Band" (or something like that) with that album in 1994...I say the Mary Beats Jane self titled album was pretty underrated. Never heard of it? Pretty underrated huh? The vocalist went on to a band called The Haunted after Mary Beats Jane broke up.
It's funny that you mentioned the album just NOW. You almost find nothing about the band on the internet - nobody seemed to know this band anymore, but today I read a review of it in "Metal Observer" - this review was put online YESTERDAY (http://www.metal-observer.com/gb/reviews/rev2325.html) and two or three days ago I saw the band being listed in the BNR metal pages (http://www.bnrmetal.com/groups/mbj.htm) - that page was uploaded at September 29th, which isn't too long ago either. Has the album been re-releases or why do I suddenly read so (relatively) much about it?
By the way, the vocalist, Peter Dolving, has his own band now...it's not metal, but interesting anyway...you should check it out: http://www.dolving.com (hm, the page seems to be offline at the moment, I guess they're redesigning it because of the new album or something)
