New bands that will be classics in 15 years

I can't believe the shit D.T. get and the fact that i am defending them ... again.
Symphony X (which is a band that i adore) never released something as good as "Change Of Seasons", something as good AND groundbreaking as "Images And Words" or something as good AND heavy as "Awake". There is no doubt that they are a far better band now of course.

Oh my...oh my god...Im having a stroke!!! :OMG: I cannot swallow this. Dragonforce are the metal equivilent of the MTV music awards. Predictable. Dragonforce couldn't write a song to save this god forsaken earth from global warming. Atleast symphony X has some variety. Not just.... intro, solo, chrous, solo, chorus, solo, chorus, solo outro. Next song.....intro, solo, chorus, solo, chorus, solo, chorus, solo, outro.

I've heard brutal death bands with more originality.

Uh... yeah. They're totally ridiculous. That's kind of the point. Nowhere on this thread do I praise their amazing songwriting talents. I think they've written somewhere in the vicinity of three song- "that boring ballady one," "that really fast goofy one," and "that power metally one from VoD." The point is that Dragonforce are FUNNY, ENTERTAINING, and FUN TO LISTEN TO.

And I don't feel like quoting your second post, but metal is pretty goofy through and through. Come on. Corpse paint? Oy. There are exceptions, of course, but not many.

^I like both equaly and feel their both terrific song writers/players with very different styles.

+1000, and I don't hate you anymore. You've earned my respect.

Nah. Symphony X is basically Dream Theater lite with a more obnoxious vocalist and Dragonforce-esque lyrics and themes and an inflated ego. Dragonforce are funny, campy, and amusing, and above all, damn fun to listen to. Symphony X fall a little bit short of being goofy and end up squarely in the "gay" slot.

LOL sigged. This might the most full of shit post of the year.

Dream Theater, as far as I am concerned is on a higher level than Symphony X... Sure, Symphony X is great, but DT is much better.

And, if anybody says DForce will be a classic, I'm going to punch them in the face. Am i the only one that really detests that band?

1. DT showboat their mad skillz all over the place. SymX's superior music doesn't allow for such wankery.

If Dream Theater's pretentiousness occasionally makes me wince, Pain of Salvation's pretentiousness might actually drive me to murder. The ORCHESTRA OF ETERNITY... Jesus. Also their vocalist actually sucks harder than LaBrie, which many people consider to be quite an accomplishment.

You're kidding yourself if you think Symphony X are any better than either of those bands, though. They put me more in mind of Dragonforce than anything else tbph  Only Dragonforce doesnt take themselves seriously...

Dragonforce fucking suck, literally. Also once again you're a fucking idiot. If you weren't such a dumbass I might attempt to engage in a debate with you on this, but it ain't worth it.

I've never really considered Symphony X Prog. anyway.

Yes, we had that discussion before.

lol @ being called a fag by a Symphony X fan... I'd assume you were kidding but your sig proves otherwise. Dream Theater (who also feature in your sig) decimate them, to be perfectly frank.

Also... come on, man, Dimmu Borgir? Satyricon? Be truthful with me: are you a Cradle of Filth fanboy?

And while you may be right about Lamb of God becoming legendary, they also fall cleanly within the realm of "mediocre," just to be 100% clear. Simplistic music indeed.

STFU NOOB. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, to be perfectly frank.

Actually, the only thing you've done this whole time is get pissed off and use the word "fuck" a lot. Chill out. At this point, you're continuing to be the one who refuses to back up their points and engage in a reasonable debate. You're also the one who interpreted "I pray Symphony X don't become a legend" as "I FUCKING HATE SYMPHONY X AND HOPE THEY DIE IN A HOLE, RAWR." As I said before, Symphony X are a decent band, certainly better than most shitty power/prog. I personally don't enjoy the Malmsteen worship their guitarist indulges in. Hence, I hope they do not become "classic." I don't hate them. I don't really feel much of anything towards them.

Apparently they're your favorite band or whatever, but still, try taking some critism without throwing an emo tantrum. Given the amount that you used capsed net-slang in your posts, I sort of doubt we can have an intelligent conversation, but, hey, prove me wrong. Why don't you try defending the band instead of bandying around all kinds of hyperbole? I have an open mind, and I've only heard a few of their albums, so maybe you could even convince me I'm wrong.

Until that happens, though, I stand by what I said, and you're welcome to keep it sigged. Although in retrospect, I'd like to add some commas to that second sentence. Meh.

And once again: STOP TAKING DRAGONFORCE SO FUCKING SERIOUSLY! Come on, everyone, these guys have written like three songs ("that fast one," "that ballady one," and "Valley of the Damned"), and their name is comprised of the words "dragon" and "force." They classify themselves as "extreme power metal." Under no circumstances could they be any sillier. The fact that people bitch and whine so frequently about something that is so obviously more than half a joke is downright ridiculous.

Anyway, I hope that's the last time I ever have to see a Symphony X fan use the phrase STFU NOOB while yelling at me about how much Dragonforce suck on an online forum.

Of course it's fine to dislike them, and I have no problem with people who are simple and frank about it, like you. What bugs me is when people get really pissed off about it. It just seems unfair to seriously HATE a band that isn't serious at all... y'know what I mean?

Oh by the way, that comparison between Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, and Cradle of Filth was meant to imply that Satyricon and Dimmu are mainstreamish, mediocre black metal, not that they actually suck as hard as Cradle.

Enslaved are probably my favorite BM band. (Real original, I know).

Yeah, upon further reflection, it might be the shredding that makes me dislike his voice, not the other way around. Listening to Paradise Lost a bit made me realize I kinda like some of his choruses.

I've heard plenty of ridiculous bands. Anal Cunt being #1. Its all find and dandy, do what you want with your music. Just give me some variety in my buffet, give me some variety in my metal. Give me something thats going to keep my attention longer than 2 months, you assholes I spent $20 for your shitty 2nd release.

Yes, there are exceptions. People who don't care about image, but music.

I get mad at people like you very easily. Idiots anger me. The reason why I got angry at your post(s) was that you just as full of shit as a toilet that hasn't been flushed since Pangea split.

Apparently they're your favorite band or whatever, but still, try taking some critism without throwing an emo tantrum. Seriously, you've heard their albums? They sound nothing like DT at all. Again, you have no idea what you're talking about. Listen to any of them (except the first).

Oh by the way, that comparison between Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, and Cradle of Filth was meant to imply that Satyricon and Dimmu are mainstreamish, mediocre black metal, not that they actually suck as hard as Cradle.
.

Satyricon was an excellent bm band. Now they're excellent black 'n roll. Dimmu is good extreme symphonic metal. Not good bm anymore. They were very good though.

And, to examine your statement that I sigged:

1. How would you say Allen is at all obnoxious? He's a great vocalist.
2. The lyrics, if you read them, are not gay or cheesy at all. Read nlyrics to The Odyssey or V: The New Mythology Suite, or Divine Wigs of Tragedy.

Look, most of the stuff I said about Symphony X was just to get a rise out of you; you made some ridiculous claim about their "sheer awesomeness overshadowing any other band" and told me to fuck myself... so, sorry to be a dick, but I think your post warranted it.

In all truth, I think Symphony X are a decent band that have recorded a handful of exceptional tracks (I personally enjoyed Paradise Lost -the album, not the song so much- quite a bit). Not deserving of legendary status, but solid enough in their way.

In truth there are only three points I genuinely disagree with you on:

1). The "you're fucking gay" part. This is untrue, and getting that angry about a relatively innocous messageboard comment is pretty ridiculous. I'm not sure what you expected if not a similarly irrational, irritating response. So it's not only presumptious to call me an idiot, it's also hypocritical, since you're the one who spazzed out to being with.

2). The "sheer awesomeness overshadows any other band" part. This is obviously incorrect. As an example, I offer Pink Floyd, who clean the floor with the entire heavy metal genre.

3). The "their lyrics aren't cheesy at all" part. You present The Odessey for your side of the argument: I'm not sure what you consider "oh yes, we'll ride through stormy skies... OF FIRE!" if not cheesy. I actually laughed (happily, though, I'll admit) when I heard that line.

Which leads me to the two comparisons that I made in your new favorite quote.

The comparison to Dream Theater is one that gets tossed around alot, probably because people hear all the shredding and assume that SX is trying to be "technical." In reality, SX seem to focus much more on the lyrical/vocal aspect of things, with the shredding just providing a backdrop; sort of the inverse of the DT approach, which is all about technicality. In truth I would hardly even view Symphony X as prog at all, and I only contrasted them with Dream Theater because they're commonly associated with one another (SX are going to be playing support for DT on a coming tour, incidentally).

The comparsion to Dragonforce is purely lyrical.

Evil lies they mesmerize
from the dragons' tongue they slide
a fury lashes from the ashes
never losing sight

Pounding down the wicked ones
Tyrants now are overcome
A final yell from hounds of Hell
rising we unite
Oh... yes we ride through stormy skies of fire

Inferno ^

On the wings of death by the hands of doom
By the darkest light from the darkest moon
Crossing silent seas over mountains high
For we stand as one tonight

In the shadows faces appear
Warriors wearing full metal gear
All join together one and all
Before the glorious light

Valley of the Damned ^

And yes, I'm aware that Dream Theater have written some fairly goofy lines in their career, as well, but they always seemed more... I dunno, self-aware. Whatever.

Ah yeah and by "inflated ego" I just meant they took themselves seriously whereas DF is clearly all tongue-in-cheek

Btw, S<issors listen to the last four minutes of The Odyssey for the best vocal performance Russel has ever given. Absolutely amazing.

Actually listen to that song because it is SO much more than just shredding, and completely kicks ass.
