new nevermore...

thanks for posting mike, its cool to see the stir this upcoming album is causing already just from one clip...

id have to agree that loomis is quite underrated. you hear about romeo, and laiho, and even petrucci every 5 minutes in the guitar world...but only once on a rare moon does someone mention loomis and/or nevermore. its good to see they share a strong fanbase with the opeth fans too, perhaps might make for a good upcoming tour???

p.s. mike, if you happen to read this thread again...im curious to know if you thought the riff in that movie clip reminded you of your own riffs at all....i couldnt help but feel as though there was a bit of opeth influence in it actually.;)

Yes, Petrucci is a fantastic guitar player, no doubt about that. However, Loomis is not only a great player, I think he's got an ear for music, exciting ways of putting solos together, on top of this he writes most of the stuff for the band. Nevermore has got "nerve" in their music which is essential for me if I'm gonna like something. Wow, I'm really hyping him, but I truly think he's fantastic! As for guitarplayers, there's a zillion of shredders out there and they don't do fuck-all for me any more. I mean, you wanna be impressed? Listen to Django Reinhardt! He was a gypsy guitarplayer from the 30´s who only had two working fingers on his left hand. Once you've heard him you'll laugh at everything else!

That first riff definitely reminded me of Opeth. In fact it reminded me of a riff in Deliverance in particular. I can see why you guys are saying Cynic, but i don't really think it sounds much like Cynic.
But honestly.. well i can't judge off of one tiny pre-production clip alone... so i better not :p I'll just say that this clip hasn't excited me too much and leave it at that.
While we're on the topic of under-rated talent in Nevermore though, am i the only one who thinks the drummer is better than people give him credit for? I think he's pretty creative and i reckon his chops are better than people seem to take note of. And of course Loomis is insane, and Warrel has one of the best voices in metal.

Wow! Mikes starting to interact with board memebers. I think we should get an 'Ask Mike' section up, like on the Ayreon site

Hey Mike, do you and Opeth have any plans for working with Andy Sneap sometime in the future (new live album or what not)?

I've caught him saying on his forum that he's a fan of your guitar playing and that he'd like to work with Opeth more closely in the future.

I can't say I'd be disappointed if he were to work with you guys though, seems like everything that both parties produce (yeah, weak pun) is great.

I always liked dead heart in a dead world, excellent musically, but the vocals (the lyrics were cool especially death of passion?) kinda got on my nerves. But ill download the vid anyway.

You can't mention the guy from Bodom in the same sentence
 ..."the guy"...thats how he shall now be referred to on these forums. I wish I wasn't stuck at a dial-up computer all week so I could see what your all talking about

ahahaa oh god, that metronome is even more obnoxious to the Cubase SX one.

What ever happened to the good ol' wood block like you got Opeth using on the documentary? Those shots of Mendez tracking bass is some of the heaviest shit ever.

Heheheh, I always use woodblock metz' while recording. But the obnoxious Cubase SX metronome sure makes teh stuff tight, cus it's so damn irritating you want be able to neglect it.

Yeah, if metal fans don't like Nevermore, it's usually because of the vocals. They are real weird, no one else really sounds like warrel. I always thought they were cool, from the first time I heard Nevermore, but some people just can't get past them...kind of like me with Rush.

Man. I am fucking stoked about this new album.

Its kind of like people who hate Dream Theater because of James Labries' high pitch vocals

Nevermore are cool though

well I just went out and picked up Dreaming Neon Black since it was the only one they had...I haven't listened to it yet, but I remember hearing some songs from Enemies of Reality a while ago and liking the vocals and especially the guitars

I'm pretty motherfucking psyched for that new Nevermore...after 6 amazing releases, they're still here making pure, sophisticated, genuine american metal. I don't care what anyone says about Warrel Dane, I always thought he was a terrific singer. He's kinda like a King Diamond in a sense that he's sorta haunting and creepy in often higher vocal ranges! I don't think he's as great now as he was in the 80s or like 10 years ago but he's still one of a kind. And I do agree with Mikael and others about Loomis. I'm done with finding straight up fast shredders that can't write anything better than simple power metalish riffing. booooorrrrrinnnggggg Bring on the bone crushing rifs and dynamics.

what's great about this band is that every release from them has it's own identity. Dreaming Neon Black is probably their most depressing/melancholic and it's a concept album. One of their best for sure.
