From the sounds of things I don't think the new Katatonia is going to be very riff driven. I wouldn't mind an album in the vein of songs like Unfurl and Code Against the Code though.

I'd definetly like to hear one long epic song from the new album. I think was a bit dissapointing that the last two masterpieces Viva Emptiness and GCD had no songs over 5 minute lenght.

I don't usually like female vocals either, except some songs which don't really have vocal lines but only some female background echoes for example

As for the new album, i'd like to hear something dark/atmospheric/melodic/heavy (whatever that means) with some electronic moments and the mellow touch of Unfurl and In The White. In the other hand, i don't want to know what it will be, i always loved this expectation and i know for sure that it will be awesome as always..

I think I would love some epic keyboards. I also think they should just take their time, I'd rather have a brilliant album in 2009 than a "just average" album in 2008.

@female vocals discussion:
the problem ist, that the most female vocals are quite shitty. on the other hand, i can't get enough of Madder Mortem, a band with GREAT female vocals

Yes I think this will be the direction of the new album.But I would be happy too if the songs are balanced with heavy parts.But again like you said I wouldn't mind if they are all in the vein of Unfurl...(also I would like to hear some acoustic stuff too)

My guess is its going to be a mix of dark electronic (Unfurl), Massive Attack style trip hop stuff (In the White remix), some stuff in the style of the other remixes (not heard them all, but the remixed Soil's Song sounded like a dance track! wickeddd), and then some heavier stuff like...dunno...Dissolving Bonds, maybe?
Of course I might be completely wrong, but either way would be an amazing suprise.

I'd like a lot of the electronicstyle, could be mixed into a more heavyrocking style too. I'd be pleased to see most of the CHUGGACHUGG gone tho. Unfurl meets Last Fair Deal Gone Down...that'd be something.
