NFL 2010

That was a fucking depressing loss.

Played like shit on defense, played like shit on offense, and someone needs to light a fucking fire under Hartley's ass.

Yeah, don't you hate it when people who actually understand something use their knowledge to break down what they experienced? I really much prefer short, half sentence bitch posts or "FUCK YEAH"s. Seriously though, I write as much as I do because I know there are other Steelers fans here and I hope that they read what I write and I hope that they learn something from it.

I do read what you post every week. I missed the game entirely, which I'm not proud of.

The colts and patriots both give up way too many points.

what was it, 450 yards to Orton? wouldnt be that happy

The Colts have given up 14 and 13 points the past two weeks. I wouldn't even count the two touchdowns the Giants scored because it was a blowout.

What's your point(s)?

Struggling how? They only gave up 13 points to Denver.

Like Denver is a clear offensive threat? They have no running game, maybe some strong WR's in years to come but the whole team is rebuilding and you win by two touchdowns..not sure how they didn't score with 500 yards on offense, don't know what you're expectation are from them if you are happy with that performance. Just hoping to go 14-2 again and lose in the first round? Manning is great but they won't go far without some defensive help

Chargers = Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. First half was woeful, second half we remembered how to play. But soft special teams (a recurring theme) and turnovers were too much for them to overcome.

One highlight for me was when SD went for a TD on fourth down, in the red zone. Rivers completed a pass to Floyd (I think), in the End Zone, but the received had apparently stepped out the back of the endzone. So they got backed up like 5 yards. Then they did it again, same receiver, but this time it was good. Then they went for a 2 point conversion. First attempt, a pass to Crayton (I think) seemed good, but there was a penalty. They got backed up, tried it again, and made it, to the same receiver.

They didn't score more because the Colts defense does what it's supposed to, prevent scores. The Broncos were 0/5 in the redzone, one being a goalline stop. Who gives a shit how many yards they accumulate throughout a game? That fact is they only allowed 13 points and won in blowout fashion -- at least as far as the NFL is concerned.

That game was fun to watch. Green Bay was as undisciplined as I've ever seen a team play. Those penalties weren't even questionable. A lot of blatant holds and illegal hits. Bears can't defend the pass or get to the QB (because Peppers was held every down), but the rush defense is one of the best.

Bears still look like maybe a 9-7 team. The schedule gets really tough late in the year. But the NFC kind of sucks. I don't think any of the NFC East teams are better than 9-7, maybe Philly, if they beat up on the division. I like NO and Atlanta to win 10+ games, but the West is obviously trash. Minnesota will not be an elite team if Favre keeps looking so old and bad.

The one game that did more than anything was remind me that I find excessively pass-happy offensive strategies really boring. The number of empty backfield sets was disturbing. I did enjoy the fact that Mike Martz's ego forced him to go for a pass after lining up for a Refrigerator style run on fourth and half a yard with goal to go and not getting the job done.

Yeah, but the Bears offensive line is so incredibly bad that it's hard to blame them for passing so much. They can't run at all, and Forte and Chester Taylor are talented enough to run behind any sort of competent line. I prefer to still see Forte in the backfield because he can rack up a lot of yards on screens if nothing is open downfield, and they need as much protection help as they can get.

That 4th and goal play was open. It was not an accurate pass, but it still was a catchable ball. The call was fine, because a run would certainly be stuffed. When you get stonewalled by Detroit four times from the one, you can't have much faith in the run. I thought it was more about looking at the odds than ego. Martz has shown more flexibility than most people have expected so far. He never made much use of the tight end in past offenses, but Olsen had a big game and figures to factor in all season.

My dad before the game told me he was worried because Lovie doesnt go after the QB.
And what did that game prove? Love doesnt go after the QB.
Just because you have Peppers on the D line, doesnt mean that you dont need to blitz.
GB mixed it up so much on the blitz, Bears did nothing. It's so damn annoying.
if they would send 2 more guys, those scrambles by Rogers would result in a sack.

Blitzing (sending more than 4 rushers) is highly overrated and usually leads to big gains by the offense. Often-times what is called a blitz by commentators is not actually a blitz, but a 4 man rush where an offensive lineman blows his assignment or doesn't see the disguised rusher.

Situational blitzing is the key. Teams who fall prey to the Rex Ryan I'm gonna blitz the fucking dogshit out of you every play generally suck anyways. When he plays good teams or someone like Peyton (Who Ryan repeatedly has said he hates playing) the defense usually gets torched.

Blitzing is fun to watch, but I probably wouldn't like it all that much if the Colts did it a ton.
