NWOBHM - The Forgotten Genre?

If you consider Budgie as NWOBHM then they rule. Same sort of sound but about 5 odd years early

Budgie is NWOBHM and even if they weren't considered NWOBHM then they still would be good.

I like Maiden, Priest, and Satan. I like Sabbath, too, but they were pre-NWOBHM. Some NWOBHM is too rock n roll-ish for my taste, to be honest. For instance, I decided to check out Holocaust - The Nightcomers, and it didn't go over too well with me because I found it way too rock-ish. What are some less rock n roll-ish NWOBHM bands?

Judas Priest, being the first wave of British Heavy Metal is not part of the New Wave, but yes, great band.

Holocaust is probably the most rawknroll on my list, so get everything else on it (+ angel witch & pagan altar of course)

I've always respected NWOBHM for its impact, but I don't want to listen to it.

Oh mate, you should, even if its the predicatble stuff.

You must listen to Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations, Saxon - Strong Arm of the Law and Angel Witch - S/T.

As excellent now as the days upon which they were released.

NWOBHM - relevant once, worn the fuck out since. Sorry.

Yeah, kind of like Black/Death metal, oh desolate one.

Angel Witch, Satan, Holocaust, Witchfynde, HELL, Desolation Angels, Savage, Raven (first 3), Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General, Deep Switch (although they were quite late, are amazing creative NWOBHM), Blitzkrieg, Saxon, Iron Maiden and many more are all essential.

Judas Priest is not NWOBHM. I can see why they are called that, because they're compared to Iron Maiden all the time. Fact of the matter is that Judas Priest, along with Black Sabbath were the first wave. That's why there's a "new wave" in the first place. Iron Maiden was definitely NWOBHM, they just got bigger than ever because their music was fantastic for an incredible string of albums, and Steve Harris was (and is) a good businessman.

Satan verges on Speed Metal, and the albums they recorded as Pariah are nearly (basically) Thrash Metal.

cookiecutter just seems like a boneheaded br00tal fan to me. I don't see how any metal fan can't enjoy a bit of classic material.

I basically am a boneheaded br00tal fan. I enjoy msyelf though, and I assume eventually I'll grow to like artsy black metal and classic metal and make fun of my former self.
