Aye, I want to see it as well.

I hate going to movies alone though, and I can never find anybody to go with.

You know, I actually have mixed feeling about the movie. It looks great, don't get me wrong, but does it really need all the fantasy elements that it seems to have (based on the trailers)? The story of the battle as it actually happend is interesting enough, if you ask me.

Very true.

But, didn't the Persians get the help of some farmer who told them the secret route up the hill that the Spartans and Athenians were making their stand from? Silly mistakes, every time. ;)

I'm pretty sure the Athenians were all gone by then. You're "silly mistakes" comment reminds me of this book I have called The Hinge Factor. It's all about little things and twists of fate that had huge impacts on important battles. You should check it out if you're interested in that sort of thing (which, if I recall correctly, you are).

300 is based loosely not only on the Battle of Thermopylae, but also on a comic book as well. Historically, I'd say we can expect it to be off, but the fantasy elements will be cool no less.

That's what I thought. Either way, I actually think I'd rather see a movie that (attempts) to portray the battle as accuratley as possible. Don't get me wrong, the movie looks incredible. I just want one of those five hour deals that you end up having to watch in school.

Who the fuck cares if it's a "hit"? Alexander sucked, yes, but Gettysburg was great, and that's the kind of thing I'd like to see done with Thermopylae.

Pretty dumb comment on your part.

It was supposed to be funny, but meh lol.

The best historical war movie for me is probably Tora Tora Tora! and Thin Red Line.

But, the majority of historical war movies don't do too well in theatres thus they don't make many of them and thats what my comment was in jest about.

It wasn't.

Historical movies do well enough in theaters. The problem is that they are quite expensive and difficult to film, and have a tendency to be long.
