Susperia have a serperate site for metal or something. Look at metal covers for different genres and maybe bands would take interest in art work if you put up examples. Besides trying to sell art to general public you could also maybe appeal to the underground.

I seriously love it, I can feel that Women's pain just through the excurciating realism of the expression shown on her face and though her brusied(?) body.

   Thanks

If you are interested in knowing what that work is about here is my artist statement for my senior thesis work that involved two Norse Mythology paintings. My work isn't just about painting "pretty pictures" you know? There's always a meaning behind them, usually it's politically based or just based on human experience... =P But I'm sort of against making art unless you're trying to say something about the world or who you are, etc etc. Just...say something with it! Especially these days, people never want to read anymore so ...I'm hoping the visuals help, and they will read my statements as well. I'm sorry I probably preach too much.

Norse Mythology Series: Artist Statement

Human life is so completely and utterly backwards today. This regressive behavior is hard to understand and is rarely acknowledged. The human race is slowly going mad. It’s been detached from the natural course of life on earth and is unsure of how to respond. Some are just fine with this --- absolutely oblivious. While some go insane. Some go insane with hatred and violence. Some go crazy with greed; some go crazy with power; and some retreat and go live away from other humans and their garbage. Some defend it---“what garbage?” Some fight it. Some try to save it. Some look to the past.

With my work I am choosing to look to the past, specifically Norse cultures that perpetuated Scandinavia over one thousand years ago. This process allows me to examine similarities and differences I find in the human race then and now. Norse mythology reached its height between 400 and 1000 AD. By the year 700, some Scandinavian cultures were already being coaxed by the Christian Inquisition to convert. It was not until 1220 that a fair amount of Norse mythology was written down in an attempt to capture these traditionally oral myths on paper, lest they be forgotten forever. Eight hundred years later, people are again doing what their ancestors did centuries before them. Whether it be through music, writing, or painting, one thing is for certain--- gone mad or not, the human race still has a lot of respect for its ancestors, their stories, and for a time when life was a lot more simple, and a lot more meaningful.

In these two works I express the madness that’s always been in us. The madness of Hel, and the insanity of being bound by human intestines is visually ideal to get across this point. Beside the madness, these two paintings symbolize a turn for the worse. These paintings represent times in life when a person thinks to herself, “When did it get so bad? When will it get better?” It is the point in time when they are not sure if it will ever get better, but there is no other option other than to endure it, and to wait. In the case of Loki and Hel it doesn’t really get better, they are outcasts because they are not gods; they are something darker. Loki and Hel are being punished for what they did, and, for the latter, how they look. In addition, they know how their lives will end, and, in Loki’s case, looks forward to death because it’s better than what he’s enduring right now. So Loki waits, and Hel screams, and they endure.

But I'm not an illustrator... I mean, I would do that while I'm starting out, just to make money to support myself. But in the long run I want to sell my work to rich entrepeneurs who are either art collectors or just want to make an investment through art (later selling it for more $$). I want to appeal to High Net Worth (HNW) or even Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) kind of people------not the "general public" the general public doesn't give a fucking shit about visual art. That is why visual art is so underground. People like movies, music, entertainment-----At least in America. Visual art is too intellectual for them. They cant' seem to get into it. Plus the art world has this wonderfully snooty way of telling the general public they "couldn't possibly understand" visual art which further bridges the gap. But no, the general public wouldn't be interested in my work, I know that. I'm more looking for people with $$.
I want my work to be in museums and fine art galleries of NYC... they are large, substantial works. I make them by hand with wooden supports that make them suspend out from the wall and they are art you know? They shouldn't be shrunk down to the size of a cd cover... that's not their point. Their point is to make a statement about the world, about people, about life, about whatever it is I choose to make a statement about in that particular piece. They aren't meant to illustrate anything other than my own thoughts.

I'm sorry that was longer than it should have been.

Oh i'm trying! Believe me.. i've only managed to sell one so far, and that wasn't a very good experience since he ripped me off $200 but oh well. I was stupid and didn't have a contract or anything. But yeah I'm trying to get them into galleries and/or sell them. I want to earn a (decent..er, liveable) living off my work at some point. I take this very, very seriously. But yes it is hard, because figurative work, and "realism" isn't really cool anymore in the Art World.
well, im a fan of the style. as a matter of fact, my favorite painting is "sick girl" by kristian krohg. i actually got to see it in the norwegian national gallery.

anyways, id be interested in buying some things. once i get back from deployment and have lots of money. what do you have available? im no rich art snob, but i should prolly stop spending money on guitars hehe

Okay I'm going to PM you. =]
You don't have to be a rich art snob to buy my work, but it does help (me). :p
That painting is haunting. It reminds me of a pre-Raphaelite painting, specifically something Maddox Brown would paint, but it's more jarring. Ilove the contrast between the skin and the bleach white of the nightgown..

Are you interested in any contemporary figurative painters? Like Odd Nerdrum, Jenny Saville? John Currin?(Though I despise him, the former 2 are fantastic).

Here's some examnples of their work, respectively.

i dig the first one. but the other 2 look too fake for me. i like things to be realistic. and if there is one thing i hate most its when people use huge strokes and call it style hehehe. glopping paint on canvas just seems lazy to me.
~gR~

Yes Currin is very fake. He sucks... but Saville and Nerdrum are really amazing. I don't have a problem with visible brush strokes, and some parts of my paintings the brushstrokes are visible.. I also like to incorporate subtle drips and things that are slightly "sloppy" (to me they read as raw emotion though) that are visible under glazes or just by looking closely. To me, there's a certain level of emotion that you get so easily with loose paint that you just can't if you're entire painting is painted meticulously (i.e. photorealism *gag*). But yeah... in my own work I feel most comfortable working realistically. However i love abstract and abstract expressionist and certain post-modern art as well. I'm very open. =)

But when it comes to painting... I love flesh.
I'm very influenced by Nerdrum actually. Can you tell?

well, i dont expect perfection in strokes. but ive seen some people just glob paint on there and say its a flower hehe.

this nerdrum guy seems pretty confident hehe

Haha, Krig, you are, indeed, the man. In my senior year of HS, my friends and I had an ongoing joke that our friend Greg saved his shit in coffee cans and kept them in his closet... for science! He would label each can with the date, what he had eaten and consistency of this shit. "May 9, 2005- Veggie Burger- Runny. Hmm... Interesting.".

We all had a European history class together, with a very, very conservative teacher. Everyday for a few weeks I'd raise my hand and when he called on me, I'd say "Did you know that Greg saves his feces in coffee cans?". He started to get really pissed, so I stopped.
