One Album Wonders

Apotheosis released one of my all time top 5 BM albums in 2002 (Farthest from the Sun), then promptly vanished without a trace.

Am I the only one who was bored by Ahab? Listening to the album was like having a conversation with my grandfather. He's dead.

Ahab is pretty sweet. Maybe you're just too ADHD for doom metal.

This, and not to mention Colony, Whoracle, and Clayman are all fairly well known.

Even Cryptopsy. While None So Vile is typically seen as their best, Blasphemy Made Flesh, and even their post-Worm stuff, is somewhat popular.

Ahab doesn't count because they only have one album and they're still active. They're too new to be a "one-album wonder."

Queensryche are also very well-known for both Operation:Mindcrime, and Empire; and Warning is better than both those albums.

Promised Land is far from bad as well. Pretty dark, melancholic and good

I'd have to agree that Ahab is boring. Whales or not, I find them to be pretty generic and pointless.

Ahab is far from being generic. it's one of the most un-generic doom bands. I listen to lots of funeral doom bands, enough to know how unique Ahab is. 'Call Of The Wretched Sea' was in many aspects a phantastic album

No, not really. It's a cute and fairly typical death/doom album that ocassionally has passages that sound a lot like funeral doom, with whale imagery driven to the point of being a giant gimmick.

Ahab is generic and gimmicky, and really appeal to people who don't even like funeral doom/have never heard Thergothon, for the most part.

It seems like anything that deviates from the norm is "gimmicky".... I always thought a change in lyrical content and imagery from the norm is nice unless it's overly gay. (see Bring Me the Horizon)
