Christ almighty people; dsoul actually asks something legitimate, that guaranteed most fans have asked themselves, and 90% of what he gets in response are flames. Disagree? Fine, tell him why. But don't post just to swear and tell him that the thread is shit...
You know why i dont find Opeth playing with Korn threatening to Opeth's musical direction?
1) The way they mention it on opeth.com it almost sounds like they find it funny. If they considered Korn a serious band to play along side, hell, if they respected them in the slightest, THEN i might worry that Opeth might move in Korn's direction.
2) Korn pales next to Opeth. Seriously, everyone bitches and moans about how crap nu-metal is, yet when you have the chance for nu-metal fans to see this, people STILL bitch and moan. Somehow i get the idea that Opeth will influence Korn's fans more than Korn's fans will influence Opeth, and i dont think that is just me being an Opeth fanboy.
3) Opeth has never stood still, and the fact that nearly everyone in the metal world has some opinion of them really does mean that they need to search out new audiences. Regardless of the other bands on their roster, RR can definitely help the band do this. Mikael said himself that RR surprised him in how professional they are, so maybe you should cut the guy some slack for actually knowing whats best for the band. Opeth will have failed if in 10 years they are stlil playing to the exact same crowds they've been playing to for the past 5, because that is far less than they deserve, and they do have the potential to gain many more fans.
4) Being introduced to new audiences does not necessitate that they change their music. I dont care how many examples of other bands you can cite and discuss; Opeth is not other bands, and Mikael has never, by anything i have ever heard or heard about him, seemed like the type of guy to want Opeth-lite playing on the radio. All this is pretty hypothetical remember - do you have any evidence at all yet that Mikael has changed the music he wants to play based on what someone else wants him to do?
5) It is one concert. Dont blow this out of proportion guys.
Dsoul, i know it IS a bit of a shock, but I really think you should wait till the new album comes out before you make up your mind.
