It seems that most everyone around here loves and hates at least one Opeth each. So which two (or more) is it for you? I'm guessing we'll get every album in both categories at least once.

Love: Deliverance and Still Life
Hate: Morningrise

I used to like Opeth a lot, but I guess I grew out of them, having realized they aren't as complex or groundbreaking as the fanboys would have you believe. I have become indifferent towards the band. And I will openly admit that some of my hate towards the band stems from their criticless fanbase that hail them as the saviors of metal.

Like: Orchid (their best), Morningrise, My Arms, Your Hearse
Give or Take: Still Life
Hate: everything else

Most Listened To: Orchid (not their best, but I do appreciate the blatant Maiden worship), Deliverance
Least Listened To: Damnation, My Arms Your Hearse

I like them all, except Damnation I find pretty average. That never worked for me on day one in all honesty, but it does make nice background music.

Still Life and Morningrise are great. The rest I can be with or without. Blackwater Park was the last one I bought, and I never listen to it. MAYH and Orchid are much better than that.

Love : Orchid , Morningrise , My Arms , Your Hearse , Damnation
Like : Still Life , Blackwater Park , Deliverance

Love: Morningrise
Very good: Orchid, My Arms,Your Hearse
Good: Blackwater Park

The rest are comparatively poor.

I enjoy all of Opeth's albums (obviously), but my favorites are their earlier albums such as Morningrise and My Arms, Your Hearse. I was introduced to them after purchasing Deliverance, Blackwater Park and Damnation, so those will all always have a special place, but I think I enjoy their first three cds the most, at least at this point in time. My least favorite of the seven is Damnation, I rarely listen to it, especially in comparison to any of their other albums.

Rankings excluding Orchid, which I don't feel I have listened to enough at this point to include.

1. Morningrise
2. My Arms, Your Hearse
3. Deliverance
4. Still Life
5. Blackwater Park
6. Damnation

Orchid will likely move into that number three spot and move the others down.

I think everyone knows that I only know Blackwater Park and find it very dull...

I'd still recommend looking into their earlier stuff, since it's very different to Blackwater Park.

Funnily enough I have been recommended My Arms Your Hearse before...that's earlier, isn't it? I don't have a clue myself :p How does it differ from BP?

Opeth doesn't get much more dull than BWP, except for the albums after it. The funny thing is, with each album (starting from the beginning) the band has gotten steadily worse and more boring IMO.

Yet at one point I remember you coming to my store and being a HUGE fan

I never was a fanboy type, but I did, and still do, like their earlier works. But like I said earlier in the thread, I've moved on and found better music.

.... and if I remember correctly, the worsening of their product didn't stop you from buying!

That's right folks, the truth is out! :D
I was always hoping the band would get their shit together and get back to writing quality music. But after Still Life, they didn't.

I've bought BWP twice. Once was when it first came out. I sold that one a little while later for pretty much the same price I paid for it. THen I found the Limited Edition of BWP and sold it for 3 times the amount I paid for it. I bought Deliverance when it was released, and within a month I traded it for an Aeternus CD, which was much better.

This is another reason why I dislike Opeth and their fans: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127755

I started this thread to advertise the Terrorizer Magazine that Opeth signed before a show on their first US tour. The show wasn't too far away and I was already in the neighborhood, so I thought, what the hell. I had the 4 members sign their interview page. Well, I have no need for it anymore, so I put it on eBay, and advertised in it the forum.

Read the thread and look at the fanboys attack me, hahaha. It's not like I tried to sell the magazine for $20. It started at $1, with $3 shipping, which doesn't even cover the price I paid for the magazine. sheesh, some people....
