Seth: i wasnt being sarcastic. i seriously cant think of any time ive heard that. somehow ive surrounded myself with musicians and music fans and dont bother talking music with people who dont know anything about it. but, i see what youre saying: i wouldnt put it past anyone to say something ignorant like that.

Usually I hear them spewing that crap on the radio. I only listen in the morning to 2 shows, Howard Stern and a local show that's pretty funny. I switch back and forth and I usually hear very stupid music comments made on Stern. I've also seen quite a few jokes on-line...it doesn't really bother me, but it's nice to have music discussion with people who know what they're talking about.

Since I moved away from my musician friends, it's a bit harder to find that...

Well, even though I don't play anymore...it would piss me off if I didn't consider the source. Plus, I'm getting to old to get mad over stuff like that anymore.

But I do see your point, if you're trying real hard...those comments can hit you the wrong way bigtime.

Of course you have to be concentrate on what you're doing, but he's like: 'I don't care, I can play two thousand times faster than now, I'm ok.'
It's weird.
Well, and I have several friends who do the same as you do (stick out your tongue to the side, of course without this face ) ahahaha, that's funny, I laugh everytime I see them playing.

Then sometimes people are like wow he actually played it!

Anyway, I totally agree with you, there's no way I can play some parts with a serious face. I definitely have to be concentrating, but sometimes muscles in your face have to be moved while you're banging out hard drum stuff. I tend to stick out my tongue to the side, probably looks really stupid.
But when the song is over I do this and it's all ok.

Then sometimes people are like wow he actually played it!

since we're on the topic of portnoy, my thoughts while i'm studying for my finals right now: i'm listening to 6 degrees of inner turbulence, and it kicks ass. that is all.

It kicks ass indeed. Mendez is a very good drummer, as is Portnoy, as is Bozzio, as is Lang....they are just different in style and background. At this level it is very hard to tell who his the best. It's like comparing Vai and Satriani...none clearly surpasses the other.
