Possible to hate Viva Emptiness, and like everything else?

The main problem for me with this album are the vocals and especially the lyrics...
I mean, I have immense respect for Jonas, but it went down from fucking good, real Katatonic lyrics (Brave Murder Day, Discouraged Ones) to 'doodoodoo why have you waited so long' and 'he went to far the fucker, it's not like I owe him money', I'm afraid I just can't stand this kind of stuff... :(

I find most of the lyrics from Viva to be rather shocking, realistic and sincere instead of cheesy...

actually its my favourite, above any other, then BMD... but, VE, i got it in a rainy season in mexico, i was depressed, on a lousy job, living by the day, and it really really became the soundtrack of my life... yeah, some lyrics are cheesy but, omerta rocked my socks! and the artwork i found sumply captivating... besides, musically speaking, made me appreciate katatonia more for not being stagnant... i didn't feel much grow from DO to LFDGD... so it was a breathe of fresh air for me as far as kata goes... awwe i just love it as much as i love cheese!

that's why ebay or someshit cataloged viva emptiness as nu metal wich it's accurate actually.....

Viva Emptiness took awhile to grow on me. Actually I bought it and listened to a few times (probably not even the entire thing, just a few songs like "Criminals", "A Premonition", "Burn the Remembrance", and "Omerta"). Then, I set it aside for a long time. Probably four or five months later I picked it up again and started to listen to it. This is after listening the hell out of Last Fair Deal Gone Down, and Tonight's Decision (which is my favorite album), and realized something I had missed in the album. I know that Viva Emptiness is not supposed to be a concept album, but I find a storyline in it. That makes it a great album for me. It is probably one of my least played, even behind The Great Cold Distance, but it still holds a special place. Viva Emptiness is a great album. Like stated before, tastes are a great thing.

I love all their albums and the main reason is that I first bought black
sessions, and all the kick-ass songs were on it from almost every album.

About the lyrics...ermm... Almost every time I hear a song from an album, I place the booklet next to me and read the lyrics for the first 3 times at least when I hear it...
But then, I try to pay more attention to the sound. That matters more to me, when the music is so great there's no reason to complain about lyrics. The feeling you get when you hear the album matters. But If the lyrics are great too, it's even better.
When I bought character (DT), it wasn't such an easy album to get into it, but I loved it because of the lyrics. One of the strongest points of that album and of every DT album is the lyrics. The music is WOW,mind-blowing, but the lyrics helped me a lot with this album, that now is in my top fav.

AAAnyway, VE is a Katatonia album, a band that is in my 3 top fav at least,
If not my favourite of all the others. The katatonia sound is in it, the music is great, the lyrics don't matter to me when my ears are so pleased.

i can't grasp how someone might hat VE. it's definitely the outstanding Kata release after BMD! after the somewhat weaker LFDGD i was really happy Katatonia found their strength again with VE.

To me, even though I consider their new one the best post-BMD, Last Fair Deal Gone Down is the most complete and most essential Katatonia album. Production and musicianship wise it eclipses both DO and TD and represents their current musical direction best.

That said, I haven't heard VE and I'm not tempted to. Along with some friends whose tastes are alike, even on the official Kata forum, there are many people saying it's their worst.

hey, that doesn't mean at all you shouldn't hear and enjoy it, I dare to promise you.
I mean, it's maybe worst in katatonia standarts, that still means it is very good

I was like what happend to LFDGD katatonia i loved so much (not to even mention BMD FFTC etc)... but after a while it grew on me...i like it fair enough, not my fave Katatonia album for sure, but no so bad..and well Omerta has to be in my top 5 katatonia songs.
