I think Deconstruction is an incredible hard album to catagorise with one song. But it is still very excellent, its my favourite album that came out of last year.
Heavy as a Really Heavy thing I think is really strong at the start (up till Goat) then sort of pales compared to those 3 and the rest of the discography. Also SYL and in the Rainy Season are great on No Sleep 'Till Bedtime.

Oh and shitstorm is bonkers great.

Good to see Devin Townsend getting some well deserved attention. I prefer his work with SYL. In face, one of my favorite concerts was seeing Vader, SYL and Kreator in Chicago back in 2004 or 2005. Devin came on sporting the skullet and wearing some overalls and put on quite an eccentric performance. I literally thought he was fucking crazy but the music sounded great. Too bad Devin is done with SYL.

I find a lot of his solo music is hit or miss. I like Synchestra and Ziltoid The Omniscient, but don't really care for Terria or Ocean Machine. I need to give Ghost and Deconstruction more listens.

On record, I'm a disagree with Dave and recommend The New Black. It reminds me of DTP, and IMO it's just SYL but more experimental than usual; if it wasn't released under SYL I think the reception would've been different. I would've said SYL too, but that album is easily blown to pieces by Alien.

Alright, here's a moment of awesome. I won a bet against my dad, and now he says he'll buy me one of those (i quote) "crazy metal people albums". While we're on the subject on Devin, can anyone tell me which Devin Townsend album to get? I know I've asked that too many times, but I've narrowed it down to Addicted!, Deconstruction, Accelerated Evolution and (as the wild card choice) Ki. I'm leaning towards the first two.

Never heard Ki but I heard its good.
Deconstruction maybe easier to find than the others.
Accelerated Evolution would be my choice.
Though Addicted! would be a close second.

I vote Addicted. Deconstruction is weird, and if you're gonna get it without hearing some songs on Youtube first, I'd advise against it.
