SymX officially on gigantour??!?!?!?

personaly I think Gigantour would have been a great oprotunity to win over some new fans.......but.............its their deciscion so I guess thats cool.

I agree. But remember, the smaller the fanbase is the more personal SymX is to us addicts.

yeah, but if they toured on a tour like gigantour it might lead to them getting the respect that they deserve.

Romeo was nominated on of the top 100 metal guitar players in that one issue of Guitar World. Not a lot of touring and exposure at that time, but he still made the list.

Then again, just like the general public, some folks are into computers & the internet, & some aren't. MJR is one of the latter, but that doesn't make him any less devoted to his fans..and that's a big part of what I'm here for. So judging by a bands online presence isn't fair.

I don't have anything to rant about as far as SX goes Symphony X goes. All I want out of them is too write more and more songs...oh and never break up

I agree with that guy whos thread got closed in regard to sx and gigantour, its ok that no one agrees but.............I hope MJR doesnt end up regretting this.................

lets hope that you all are right

and the folks at MP.com are wrong.....................

i dunno man, personally i'd rather they finished their awesome album with the time and care needed, and then blow everyone away on a tour.

rather than rushing or putting off the album just to get a little fame. i don't care if they get mainstream or if nobody knows who they are, i think they're a great band and whenever the new album comes out i'm getting it.

i just don't see how ranting about it to us fans is going to accomplish anything at all.

btw: DT is still awesome dispite some of thier idiotic fans

"Allen = Delivered 2 great prog/metal albums before his band downgraded to yet another run of the mill power metal band."

Wow harsh

"it's been 3 years since I gave Symphony X any relevancy, hence, I just dont care anymore."

Oh dear..

I didn't take the time to read the entire thread so excuse me if I'll repeat what others have been saying.

What I think is that they should pause the recording of the new album to get on this tour. It simply makes sense, and even if they pause the recording, this doesn't mean the album will sound worse or something else. This would be extremely pretentious on their part to pass this opportunity of their life for the sake on an album. In the other thread, someone told the guy who shared my view: do you think you're special? Wtf!?!? If Sym X guys don't go on that tour, we should be asking them this question.

Symphony X is one of my most favorite bands of all time. I can't begin to say how their music has affected my life, both my musical career and in general. I have to say though that by turning down this offer, they could have possibly just made the worst move of their entire careers. For a band whos first album was released 11 years ago, they haven't made particularly large strides in the metal world outside of the relatively small "progressive" circle. They've still yet to play some of the larger European festivals such as Wacken. They could have very easily delayed the album a month or two and played the fest as sort of a precursor tour, maybe debuted one or two songs off of the new album live, and generated some serious hype about it.

Symphony X is an extraordinary band with mediocre exposure. EVERGREY is more well known than Symphony X is...so is INTO ETERNITY. Symphony X blow those two bands out of the fucking water, what the fuck is wrong with this picture?!?

Oh noes!!1!!1 dude... I said what I thought of Symphony X in my closed thread, so I wasn't hiding anything. I still believe that half of SyX catalogue is boring power metal and their only good album is TDWOT anything afterwards is mediocre at best or a blantant repeat of what they did on TDWOT.

And instead of tagging me ignorantly within inside a group of people (considering that DT is not even close to being my favorite band), why dont you try to address the arguments? maybe you cant... because indeed is STUPID of the band not to join this tour for whatever reason.

I'm sorry to see SyX doomed to bars and 50 people headlining show for the rest of the career, or what maybe left of it. Best of luck with the new album, and the 2 week tour around bars bringing a whopping 50 people that will undoubtfully follow.

I couldn't care less what group you associate with, personally; I'm still curious as to what redeeming value there could be in the act of coming to the 'home' of a band you loudly proclaim dislike for across the internet, & proceeding to insult them..it screams troublemaker, frankly, which isn't taken to kindly here.

That said, the argument was addressed in another thread..there are factors that aren't public knowledge that went into the decision. As it's not my place to make them public, suffice it to say that until and unless you know the entire story, you're not in a position to judge the band's decision.

*laughs* the faux concern is humorous, thanks for the laugh..but the band will do fine and continue to be increasingly successful with or without Gigantour. Sure, the exposure would be a great thing for them, but they've made their decision..so be it, whining & insulting them won't change it.

Please direct me to the post where I have insulted the band? disagreeing with them is not insulting, saying why I dont like the band or the music is not insulting. I read the rules of this forum before posting to precisely avoid that, I really dont like to become a troll for a forum, since I've participated in many and know how annoying that is.

I'm just expressing my thoughts, just like I have expressed not very positive thoughts of DT in the MP.com forums, and about Metallica in their forums and so on... so I would really apreciate if you stop accusing me of insulting the band, wich I have carefully avoided.

And about the band being increasingly successfull... after the impact of TDWOT and V wich IMO are their best albums, all they've managed in terms of popularity is playing in bars for a couple of dozen people. Now they are more than a decade old, and about to release their 7th album... I really doubt any of the new material will compare to the quality of TDWOT (maybe copy it but nothing new), and even if it does it will surely not take them out of the hole their in... there's so much you can gain from releasing albums, headling bar tours and opening for power metal bands, but popularity is not one of them.

EDIT: Oh and I already said that I base myself on the OFFICIAL reason, any backdoor reason is not relevant to me so I'm not going to meddle into that. I'm just stating the official reason is lame, if they have another reason they should come foward with it, but I seriously doubt there IS any valid reason to justify this move. Unless half the members just quit the band, I really cant think of a good reason...

I don't understand what you are trying to do here. If you don't find the band succesful, why do you want them in Gigantour ? Is it your business to make the decision if the band would join the tour or not ? Who do you care ? Will you love them if they join Gigantour ?
If so, I think you have some serious problems.

What's so hard to understand?

I dont think the band is successful, therefor I would like them to join the Gigantour so they get more exposure.

I'm not making desitions for them obviusly, I'm just stating as a third party not involved in the thing, that they made a stupid move. I have a right to an opinion, and also a right to express it in order to produce some change about it, is it really that hard to understand?

I probably wont like them more if they go into the Gigantour, as I really dislike the music, and a tour wont change that. However I would really love those guys to become successful for many reasons.

1) It's great to see talented bands gain more exposure

2) Symphony X has been around for many years, and they should be allowed the posibility of focusing more on what they love (music) than trying to pay their bills with their day jobs.

3) Symphony X becoming popular would further open the door for other progressive metal bands to gain more exposure for the rest of the music world, since interest in the genre will surely rise.

Then I have another reason...

There's many talented bands out there who have not been given the opportunity SyX just had, and would probably kill for it. For example, I'm still a little pissed that Dave didn't consider Pain Of Salvation even though they where one of the first candidates.
