By far my favorite genre in my metal. Some people call it "wankery," and I respect that that's your opinion. My opinion is that music needs to convey feelings and at the same time be interesting. Anyways, discuss and recommend...

I'll start with Sinners Bleed... Wow :kickass: :saint:

The obvious touchstones of the genre:

Afflicted - Prodigal Sun
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Cadaver - In Pains
Creepmime - Shadows
Crimson Massacre - The Luster of Pandemonium
Deicide - Legion
Demilich - Nespithe
Disaffected - Vast
Golem - Eternity: The Weeping Horizons
Gorguts - Obscura
Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients
Seance - Saltrubbed Eyes
Wicked Innocence - Omnipotence

early deicide isn't very technical at all

Anything from the Quebec scene.
Cryptopsy
Martyr
Quo Vadis
Augury
Gorguts
Neuraxis
And of course the stuff not from Quebec
Gorod
Atheist
Death
Cynic
Kronos
Lykathea Aflame

btw, necrophagist suck ass

Atheist
Gorguts
Death (later albums)
Quo Vadis
Gorod
Demilich

Not too familiar with many other technical Death Metal bands but I guess those are the basics I'm into.

then I guess we have different ideas of what the word "technical" means

anyways, great bands that haven't been mentioned

nile
suffocation
nocturnus - "the key" - haven't tried anything else
immolation

Pretty much what everyone else mentionned and

Pitbulls in the nursery
Nocturnus
Spawn of Possession
Sceptic
Cenotaph (Mex)
Creepmime
Psycroptic
Theory in Practice

and I guess that Sleep Terror and Electro Quarterstaff are pretty much up your alley as well even if they are more progressive/instrumental.

Uh, yeah. All three are far more technical than most of what has been discussed in this thread (Death? Nigga please!), and they are, for that matter, more technical in an absolute sense than some of the other albums I myself mentioned (Demilich and Pestilence, for certain).
