i don't hate Agalloch, but i can probably name 200 albums which i'd rather see on this list that aren't by them, and most of which did more for metal if we're going to get into the whole influence being a factor thing.

either way if you ask me we shouldn't repeat albums almost at all, but nobody else seems to care because we're basically just voting up every big name band and voting down one or two bands otherwise. admittedly i'm guilty of this too, but for example, do we really need a second Gorguts album on the list sooner than a Celtic Frost one?

Fuck no... I'll say this though, this IS the gorguts album that belongs on the list. One person constantly voted Obscura to the top because it was one of his favorites. He'll have all four gorguts albums on the list eventually... not because they're so great, but because he loves them and no one else hates them enough to vote them down.

Well apparently the problem is that any album that isn't 30 years old or doesn't contain palm-muting, string-skipping, and blast beats throughout doesn't belong on the list. Seriously, people need to develop more eclectic tastes. Besides, 200 is a large number. More than enough time to fit plenty of classics on before putting the Agalloch albums up. Personally, I would like to see Morbid Tales, Severed Survival, The Erosion Of Sanity, Holy Diver, Dimension Hatröss, Hail to England, Blessed Are the Sick, and Blood In our Wells get on the list before Ashes.

That's a fair point. My counter point would be that all bands are not equal. I would say certain bands have stood above others during each era. IMO, currently, Agalloch and Deathspell Omega are two such bands.

But as far as the whole Agalloch thing goes, I don't really care if people vote against them every single time, but I think it's absurd that people are acting like Agalloch have no business being on the list.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think Agalloch wipes the floor with most of the other bands on the list. Their songwriting, composition, lyrical content and conceptual themes are top echelon.

I would say a band like Metal Church, who brings nothing new to the table is the real offense.

Dimension Hatröss/Metal Church/Blood in Our Wells

Metal Church's S/T wasn't a genre-pioneering avant-garde masterpiece of edge-pushing metal, but it is widely regarded as their best, contains a respectable number of thrashy songs written around the same time as Californian pioneers, and is certainly no less worthy than Crystal Logic or either featured Megadeth album in terms of originality.

EDIT: Hell, even an album like Consuming Impulse is hardly a new-to-the-table-bringing album. It's just an excellent early entry of OSDM, just as Metal Church's S/T was for USPM and speed/thrash.
