The "controversial opinions" thread!

well.. sorry to pee on your and Jeff's parade, but i have tattoos.. good ones even (some tribal, but no "barbed wire" or asian text, lol)... and 99% of people never know it. i hardly ever show them, and even then ONLY when the subject of discussion is tattoos. they're on my upper arms, so they'd be easy to display.. i just don't feel the need or desire to. for me, they are memories...i got each of my tattoos (4 in all) in very cool places in the world while i was doing cool things. i know a lot of people like myself.

Same here.. i have my epic Dokken tattoo(Laugh all you want suckahz!):

(Shit photo. The blue, red and yellow look more like this one irl: Linky)

And it took 4 days at Sweden Rock Festival before anyone in my "camp" got to see it.. and the only reason they saw it was because this guy handed out beers to anyone with a tattoo.
I did the tattoo because it means something to me, not to get attention.

^ IMO a redundant comparison, as the typical riff that defines thrash metal, couldn't live in this kind of groove anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree. Thrash never came across as a genre to me that ever had groove as one of its fundamental aspects, I just felt I should add to drew's post.

It depends how far you take it.
I'm not really bothered by how the thrash metal guys dressed, because they did a simple look, similar-ish to hardcore punk, with as you said, the black jeans, high top shoes and a shirt.
But I can't stand the whole patches thing, nor the motorcycle jacket thing.
It looks wanky to me.
Wanna wear a motorcycle jacket? Wear it while riding a bloody motorbike because that's what it was designed for, not while you're on stage playing metal.

Then there's the whole 80s glam metal image.....don't care if it's oldschool, that shit is fucking terrible looking.

I agree about the glam thing...never understood why a man would want to be dressed up (with make-up and all) like a woman, and why a woman would find that attractive is beyond me

Dude I think Eric Petersen would totally disagree with you. Testament was one of the grooviest Trash bands even in existence!

Dude shit like DNR, Souls of Black, even Dog Face Gods (even with that out of key note in the arpeggio section :p Just kidding james ...lol)

Nothing to be ashamed of man! Lynch was and still is a monster player!

I'd rather listen to Linkin Park than most thrash metal.

Well I will say that I do prefer Linkin Park to all the other bands in the genre, but nothing to me screams METAL more then good ol' Bay Area Thrash!

Testament, Violence, Forbidden, Death Angel!

No Exodus??

I always preferred East Coast (god it sounds like a rap thing), bands like Nuclear Assault, Anthrax, Overkill, Crumbsuckers, Carnivore, and Whiplash

Ya I knew there was someone I was forgetting ... im like WTF!!

I am not a big fan of "the new guy" on vocals. Gimme Toxic Waltz era and I am hella happy. Love the new music but the vocals are kinda killing it for me :(

Yeah the new guy for me is meh. I prefer Zetro on vocals, for some reason I found Baloff annoying. I remember watching the Combat Ultimate Revenge tour and hearing him and being like this sucks. Musically early Exodus is great but the vocals killed it until Zetro came in

the new guy is cool as fuck, got to hang with them when they did vegas a few years back. nice guy, cant say an unkind word about him, I just dont dig his vox.

I do have to say the riffing and songwriting is fucking incredible, Holt really is one of the major players in the Trash Riffing genre.

never waste your time talking to other men who cannot discuss anything other than some kind of sport for more than 5 minutes.
