i understand that you said intelligence in the broad sense of the word, but i just don't see it fitting there.

I would call Dream Theater intelligent, for the elaborated structure and whatnot. And i would listen to DT if they weren't incredible boring

Orchestrated, layered music sir, made to give off emotional feelings can easily be argued as 'intellectual' as proven by our races earliest forms of composed music. Sure it would be a different take on it than say Dream Theater, but it doesn't mean it doesn't apply there. Such thorough composition takes as much thought as instrumental masturbation.

But this is exactly what I was getting at. It is so subjective, that its silly to label as such.
