 I'm glad you're into it. It's not my thing, though I respect Satanic Pop Metal because it confuses nothing about what it is. The more recent albums blur the lines and I respect it less for it; Satanic Pop Metal was a pure and flagrant sell-out with no illusions, whereas the more recent material falls a bit to far into it. It's lost its shock value and has fallen into full conformity.

To give some context behind my opinion, I used to love Semargl. Their first album was a symphonic black metal masterpiece (I'm curious of CrimsonFloyd's opinion on this and Zeph's too, since I lent him the album at MDF '09). Attack on God was an enormous influence on my song writing after I first heard it. I listened to this album a fucking hundred times and then they went full retard. Here's the opening track:

If i listen to whats considered mainstream, its mostly soundtracks.

The most mainstream i get with metal is metallica. All of their albums have gone platinum and are still played on the radio. So ill say metallicas first 3

I've grown to appreciate some glam metal and I still listen to early Korn and SOAD but it's pretty rare these days. I only really liked Around The Fur from Deftones but I never listen to it anymore. I saw them live about 5 or 6 years ago and they played nothing but gay crap and it turned me off them.

iamamiwhoami

lolno. awful. VESPERTINE is one of my top 10 albums of all time though, any genre. i was referring to chart stuff though, not hipster pop you god damn hipster!!

also i was being kind of facetious anyway; beyonce's 'countdown' is the best pop song of the '10s, everybody knows this

I didn't know about the Semargl thing...that's quite a genre jump.

I liked both the BM and the pop stuff though, the latter less so.

no country for old wainds said:
let's just agree that 'party in the usa' is the greatest pop song ever written

Fixed.

Don't hate me because I'm right.

Lady GaGa just recycles pop melodies from the past and there's nothing even remotely interesting or innovative about her music. To say that she destroys all other pop is laughable. Yes it's well produced and she can sing, but what does it matter today. All pop is well produced nowadays and you can alter voice to no end.

Her music may not be super innovative but her tunes have more dynamics and compositional and lyrical depth than 99% of pop.

Probably because she is a classically trained musician. :loco:

The problem for me with modern pop and especially RnB is that it's produced to be completely distracting. You can't do anything else whilst it's on, it just rapes your mind. The porn music videos don't help either. It pisses me off in the gym. I wish they'd fuck off with their bullshit. All that is ever on is some retarded RnB music video with some women shaking their massive arses about or the fucking Kardashians, which is basically the same thing.

Oh please. Dynamics, compositional and lyrical depth. Good job producers and marketing section. You got The Butt from the trailer park. Lady GaGa is a fucking visionary. Her pop is same as anybody else's but somehow it's like, clever and deep and she's a genius etc.
