THE OFFICIAL DREAM THEATER DISCUSSION THREAD

Even though the words "radio hit" make me cringe , the rest of the review gives some sense of reassurance. Whether or not this new release really does take them to a new level remains to be seen, but there is still that great anticipation of a new Dream Theater release because they've NEVER made the same album again. Along with the new Symphony X, this one's really got me jumping up and down.

I agree Dream Theater just doesn't have that same magic they did at the beginning, but they still kick plenty of ass. And despite what anyone may think, 6DoIT really is a good CD! :p

wtf is wrong with "radio hit"?

are you seriously such prog snobs?

i have heard Spirit Carries On, Metropolis 1, Glass Prison, and several others on the RADIO.
"nothing is any good if other people like it" = "i am a dumbfuck"

these statements are equivalent.

I just happen to enjoy some more mainstream music, buddy, so don't jump to conclusions there.

What I mean is that radio-oriented isn't a description one usually associates with a band like Dream Theater. So in this case, it didn't sound appealing.

If I hadn't heard Pull Me Under on the radio all those years ago, I never may have heard of Dream Theater and subsequently bought every CD/DVD they've released. Yay for the radio, I say. (Just get the dumbass DJs off the f'n air!)

I have heard Symphony X on the radio. OMFG TEH RADIO IS TEH EVILZ!

I am stoked about the possibility of SX and DT both having new albums at about the same time! I've stopped following the bands online (but never stopped listening to their music), and I seem to have come back at an exciting time.

This is a ridiculously n00bish question, but... what happened to the Dream Theater forum? No, I didn't register here to ask about it, but this thread seems like a convenient opportunity to ask. I haven't been on the SX board before, but I used to look at the DT forum a lot (and post occasionally). I stopped following it not long after Octavarium came out, mostly because that's when I moved and started graduate school! When I recently dusted off that link in my bookmarks, it just took me to the main DT page. Did they give up on the forum due to too many flamewars? :heh:

Oh, and those Photoshopped Myung pictures are HILARIOUS. The story about the Pornoy impersonator is really bizarre. It reminds me of a friend of mine who ran into a guy who was in a bar pretending to be Justin Hayward...

prog more likely.

progressive. one can only hope.

Where there is life, there's hope...

They removed the forum due to many elitist people and the bad atmosphere.

The MP forum isn't too bad, and the JP forum is just crawling with musos who create a thread and hardly anyone posts in it, so there are thousands of threads, but no real discussion... I guess they're free of the fanbois though... maybe that's why they work...

Lorem Ipsum,
The same thing kinda happened to me with following DT online. I began grad school that fall, and my free time just evaporated. But as long as we have the music (and plenty of beer) we have good reason to take a nice break!

Anybody who doesn't like James LaBrie's voice, should listen to the whole of Ayreon- The Human Equation...

His singing throughout that album is amazing, very warm and emotional...

If his vocals on the new DT album can be anywhere near back to the standard and focus of Images And Words and Awake, I'll be very pleased. :D

Actually just on that, I reckon Awake is a way underrated album, I've just been rediscovering it lately, it's got so much awesome stuff on it!!! :headbang:
