The return of the "How are you today?" thread

! My dad still pas my monthly fees...I stopped mid-summer. He lireally tells me to keep it active because when I 'get back into it' I wont have to start over. The man has no faith in me >8(

I'm pissed off by the "DOWNLOADING IS ILLEGAL, YOU'RE A THIEF, YOU BREAK THE LAW, I'M JUDGE DREDD" thing going on the net. Yeah, I break the law, and so what ? You don't ? Never ? You never drive too fast, run red lights, phone in your car, download illegal porn, work undeclared ?

Fuckers.

... I'm about to get banned from the Porcupine Tree board =D A dude even said "Unfortunately, this is a public place, but you don't deserve to be here". Oh my, I'm gonna exile and live my last days alone in the desert. Internet is serious business.

 Is this over the whole illegal downloading crap?

More or less. What I like on COBOT is that you can write anything you want, gross, legal, illegal, immoral, whatever. If I wanna type "I SUPPORT CHURCHES BURNING AND ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING AND THE AVERAGE PROGRESSIVE ROCK FANS ARE TRUE FUCKERS", I can. That's the beauty of it.

Unfortunately, that's not everywhere. I just wrote "I understand kids with no money stealing or downloading music, they can't afford it so they do whatever they can to listen to it", and everybody yells at me saying "YOU DON'T DESERVE TO DIE, CRUCIFY THE HERETIC".

Sometimes I wish people had a real life.

That's only because they listen to this band exclusively, that's all

IDK. I guess that's specific to prog rock fans. Those guys still live in the 70's. I think I hate them.

Hehe, i agree with you though, i mean fuck there are artists today(mainly Devin Townsend of those i know myself) that even condone downloading illegally of their albums. Usually they acknowledge how many fans they've gained through downloading(personally I probably wouldn't have been into Devin Townsend, and probably not metal or any of the music i listen to today, like Dubstep and such if it werent for downloading), and appreciate it. I've bought more albums after downloading than not, and from what I've understood of recent surveys, i'm not the only one. People who download, generally buy way more albums than people who don't. Besides, in the end, its about the music. The industry may be "dying"(though i doubt this), but music will never.

A lot of punk bands do. I know of several instances where the band tried to put the music up for free download and then their label threatened to sue them. But I think Pennywise actually did put their last album up for free.

And yeah, I always buy albums I really like after downloading them. But I do have a few friends who either will download the music, or not listen to it at all. So I'm sure most musicians would rather have people know who they are and not get paid, than have their music locked away from people through cost.

I especially like what you said about the industry possibly dying, but music never will. I'd never thought of that. But it does remind me of that NOFX song, Dinosaurs Will Die. Another band who I never would have started listening to, if it hadn't been for downloading.

It's funny how metallica loved to jew everyone about this yet they have more money than they could possibly spend in a couple lifetimes.

On a side note, there's this famous pop writer here who puts up loads of his things for free. He knows people will buy books if they like them, nobody can stand reading on the computer.
