The School/Uni Thread

I have no interest in Math beyond the Calculus level (meaning I don't even want to know anything beyond that, not I have interest in Calculus). English is something that greatly interests me, even though it busts my fucking balls every semester.

So I registered for my next semester's classes. Here's what I'll be taking

English 404: Creative Writing Nonfiction
English 405: Creative Writing Fiction
English 363: Shakespeare I
English 380: Approaches to English Studies
Film 346I: European Cinema Communist & Facist Resistance

17 fun filled units. I'm only concerned about the last three. The creative writing classes will be pieces of cake

I'm taking Creative Writing and Shakespeare next semester as well. I'm assuming Approaches to English Studies is a theory class? I'm taking one now, it's more interesting than I expected, though I don't exactly intend to rush into another one.

It depends on the prof (for the English studies class). I know one professor starts off the semester with reading Jane Eyre :zombie: (and you know how I feel about that). I've heard nothing but terrible things about the course from various people who've had it with various profs, but it's required for my major. bah.

what creative writing class are you taking?

My theory class hasn't looked at any texts. :zombie: We've just been reading Saussure, Derrida, Barthes, Lacan, Freud, Marx, Althusser, etc. The creative writing class as far as I know is just a standard class. This is all the course website says: "Practice in creative writing in various forms (fiction, poetry, drama, essay); critical analysis of students’ manuscripts in class and/or individual conferences."

oh okay so a general creative writing class. should be interesting.

and yeah your theory class is definitely THEORY whereas I think my English Studies class will be more...I don't know...methods? I'll let you know in February.

Well now that essay season is officially over (I barely made it out of that one alive) its time to study for exams 5+ hours a day. Of course it always helps to have 3 exams within 2 days, that is bound to boost my mark :kickass:

Seriously though, 2 exams on the same day is fucking stupid, not to mention a third exam within 24 hours of the second. I think the university schedules exams with the sole purpose to fuck me.

Exams for me start on the 17th through the 20th. These include 3 standard multiple choice exams, an online exam for Latin, and an in-class 2-hour essay for Honors.

Not sure when mine start..I think a week from Monday. I have some really hard ones coming that could make or break my grade.

Fuck I hate finals.

My essay season continues throughout finals (and they're not the finals themselves :erk:). I have four more essays and 5 finals, 4 within a 30 hour span.

I am glad to be able to say at the end of the day that "At least I am not Necuratul"...j/k.

Seriously though, that is horrendous, I'll remember not to complain about schoolwork in the future when I am around you lol.

Eh, hopefully next year I'll be able to say "at least it's not last semester." This has definitely been the most brutal semester bit a fair bit. Most of the time that I'm posting here I'm in the middle of working on an essay or reading an electronic reserve from the Rutgers library website.

But you know what, I even stop myself from complaining, because I have a friend who has it way worse than I do (plus two jobs and some family issues). She's constantly doing work, even while at her jobs, hardly sleeps more than an hour or two, hardly ever sits down to eat...and yet she's way more optimistic than me. I have to say that I really admire her.

A lot of women are like that. I wish I had that kind of motivation.

Good luck!

I have one exam on Monday (Astronomy, should be easy to pass and that's all I really want) and then one a week from Wednesday on Classics.
