The School/Uni Thread

Actually pointing out that mistake kind of helps the argument that your paper needs to be proof-read, because the author tends to either not read what he's written or is prone to skim over it when re-reading it himself.

So I just finished writing my third fucking paper for this week. You think University departments could co-ordinate better so as to avoid destroying all the hope their students have at actually getting all their work completed.

Also, don't worry about editing my Vikings paper, Zephyrus, I got my roommate to do it for me. I think it turned out pretty good but it is always hard to tell, especially when I haven't taken a University level history course before.

Now I have to do some assignment where I peer edit two peers' papers. And I have got to say, what I have read so far has been pretty atrocious in terms of writing technique. Hopefully with further analysis they won't prove to be that bad as I haven't the time to spend editing them meticulously.

This whole concept of semester hours still makes no sense to me, since I am on trimesters (quarters). I either take 3 or 4 classes per term, and a few things are worth half a course, such as band, music lessons, some dance classes, etc. I made sure to exploit music lessons for 4 .5 credit A's.

Semesters make more sense than quarters (trimesters). It seems like too much is crammed into the course in a trimester. Also, with trimesters, the break points don't make sense. I went to a school with trimesters for a few years and the end of the first trimester would run into thanksgiving. When that was over, everyone would go back for 3 weeks and then it would be a week off for Xmas.

With semesters, you get a few days off for Thanksgiving and 3 weeks off at Xmas before the next term started, which is more logical.

My school sucks, theres a bunch of mansions within the district so theres lots of preppy kids :puke:. Theres barely any Metalheads here. And lots of kids are ignorant douchebags, including some of the kids in the group I hang out with, oh well.

Ugh, they're so annoying, and they won't quit bashing Mexicans. And half the time when they say "look a Mexican" its not even a Mexican. I said I was Latino and they said "you're not Mexican". Don't they realize that there are more Latinos than just Mexicans? So stupid. But most of the time they just make stupid juvenile jokes and completely piss me off. And they argue with eachother at the lunch table like they're on the fucking real world.

Let me give you an idea

person1: I'm going to the movies with my gf this weekend
person2: Your gf is a fat whore
person1: Shut the fuck up, you dated two fat girlz!
person2: Your gf is still a fat whore!1!
person3: No she's not I've seen her
person1: Your gf is ugly!

Applied to Uni to read philosophy just over two months ago now. So far have an offer from York University and an interview with Cambridge in just under two weeks. Fun fun..

Good luck. I just applied for history, waiting for replies now...

So it turns out the one essay I had to peer edit was the most atrocious use of letters put to paper I have ever had the misfortune of reading. I mean, this is a second year class at the University level, you think people could, at the very least, develop a semi-clear writing style that manages to avoid being completely inarticulate, but I digress. Thankfully the second paper I examined was not nearly as bad as the first. That being said, once my normal expectations returned to me for academic writing it didn't fare that great either.

Now I understand the frustrations that university professors have regarding the problems they have with students and their inability to articulate clear, succinct and well-supported arguments. Hopefully my suggestions will help these individuals in the long run, however.

having been in creative writing workshop classes and other english classes where we've had to peer edit/respond, it doesn't surprise me anymore.
