The School/Uni Thread

It basically goes down like this:

Music Policy
WMEB has no playlist. We are a free-form radio station. This being said, we still have albums that are priorities for us to play over the air and give the artist or band as much exposure as possible. These priority albums are located in the bins. Each bin CD is color coded as follows:

....

The next bin colors refer to specialty shows only.

Yellow: This bin is the metal bin. The albums with this color are considered to fit into the metal genre. All DJs that have a show with a metal format are to play at least 6 cuts from the yellow bin per hour.

....

After a DJ fulfills their bin requirements for the hour, the rest of the time is theirs to program with whatever music they see fit. However, the music that the DJ personally picks must stay within the philosophy of WMEB: this means no Led Zeppelin, Beatles, or any other band that does not need our exposure. A DJ can be dismissed if they are playing music that goes against WMEB’s programming policy. Stick to stuff that is underground and unknown.

Yeah. I plan to plan mostly black/death/doom/thrash, and should have no problem playing anything from my collection.

Music Library Policy
The WMEB music library is an immense resource and very valuable to this radio station. Any DJ can feel free to use this library to select music to play on their show under one condition: you need to put the CDs you get from the library on the shelves marked “Put Library CDs Here” in the on-air studio. This way our librarian can find them and put them back easily. DO NOT PUT LIBRARY CDS BACK INTO THE BINS! There is nothing more frustrating then finding old library CDs in our new music bins. Just don’t do it. Also be sure to keep the music library neat, clean, and in order. It just makes the librarian’s life easier.

Submitting Music to be Added to the System:
1.) You must submit a data CD containing the MP3s that you would like added to the system to the music directors. (All MP3s must be encoded at a bit rate of AT LEAST 192 kbs. 256 kbs is preferred, as this is CD quality. Any MP3s not meeting this requirement will NOT be considered for submission.)
2.) The music directors will then review the submitted tracks to ensure that they all meet FCC requirements, as well as to make sure that the tracks fall in line with WMEB's musical philosophy. Any tracks not meeting these 2 standards will NOT be considered for submission.
3.) After the music directors deem the tracks OK to air, they will then be added to the automation system by the webmaster.
NOTE: Any music not added in this fashion will be deleted from the system immediately.

Should be interesting to have the music directors review my tracks.

If I actually lived on campus, I would have probably tried to get a DJ position, but it's too much of a pain in the ass otherwise.

A friend of mine had a Metal radio show on campus. It was pretty good. The only problem is that I rarely listened because I am too used to listening to what I want, when I want.

So I am trying to study for my midterm tomorrow in Hong Kong Cinema but it is proving difficult since a lot of the reading material we are required to know is hosted online through this program called WebCT. I emailed my prof about it, but I am doubting there is anything that can really be done; I may just have to bite the bullet on this one despite it being quite unfair to students trying to adequately prepare for the midterm.

Webct is fucking stupid imo; I had to deal with that shit constantly, and I had to help numerous amounts of students navigate the damned site because they couldn't figure it out on their own (or the various drop-boxes would stop working, or some other stupid shit wouldn't work).

so in my film class last night we watched a film that was made in Switzerland during the 30s, was only shown twice, and then a few more times in private screenings, was banned, and has rarely been seen by anybody.

it wasn't that great, but the novelty made it interesting. the film was called "The Red Plague" and was basically an anti-communist propaganda film.

webcit suckes hairy balls... unt switched to some blackboard system this sememester... its nbetter... less fuck ups.

I have used blackboard more than I have used WebCT and Blackboard is far superior. I don't know if you can take tests through Blackboard though, which is something you can do with WebCT

Well the prof apparently completely changed the content of the midterm to focus far less on the online readings. This is good news :)

Sakai > WebCT and Blackboard, but I still hate that shit. I've also had several classes that put articles up on electronic reserve from the university library's website. It's fucking annoying, professors should have everything they want students to read available in hard copy. Professors also shouldn't hold students responsible for making copies of things.
