The School/Uni Thread

Imus is a dumb piece of shit anyway, I'm glad he had to go through all of that.

So today was day one of the new semester for me. Woo, I guess. Yup, there's nothing quite so blow-your-brains out fantastic as year # 3 at a two year school. Anyway, I may (probably, hopefully) be leaving at the end of this semester. I'm on pace to finish here this semester, actually, so I should have an associates degree, but what I mean is that I may not go to another college.

As I'm sure I've mentioned a whole bunch of times, I'm in an Improv / Sketch Comedy (mostly improv) group, and at rehearsal last night, one of the guys, John (who started the troupe, and acts sort of as a leader) came to use with some information about this Organization called the National Association of Campus Activities, which works with colleges all over the US helping to promote and organize events, entertainment, seminars, etc. As I understand it, what they do it set up these conferences that are sort of like fairs, where representatives from all these different colleges come to check out entertainers and speakers and stuff like that. If they like you, they get all your promotional material and NACA will book you with them, and even book you on college tours if enough colleges are interested, and they pay for the travel expenses. Plus, acts that are with NACA can get up to $3000 a show, which is a pretty sweet deal.

So, I mean... the choice seems pretty obvious to me. Of course we don't know if the whole troupe can even do it, since one of our members is going the be a father soon, and another may be getting married. And then there's the chance that we aren't good enough to get booked on tours. Anyway, I'm just real excited about the whole idea. If it happens, I'll definitely feel like I'm on my way.

After expressing some minute interest, I've been approached about joining a fraternity here on campus. It's called Kappa Delta Phi and it's new to the school, and doesn't have a frat house so I can still enjoy the benefits of dormitory life. It's intended for students with high GPA's, and I'm a 4.0 so far.

But I'm not sure about the commitment. I'm already double majoring (triple if you count the Honors thesis), and I just applied for a part-time job at the dining hall which I'm likely to get since they need help.

System in the US is usually:

90-99 - A
80-89 - B
70-79 - C
60-69 - D

For my school, it was

93-99 - A
90-92 - A-
87-89 - B+
83-85 - B
80-82 - B-

etc
The first one is how mine is. Practically anyone can get into the University of Tennessee at Martin, I had a friend there(who now is dropped out) that got in with a bad lawbreaking past of a few offenses on his record(stealing a car, running away, etc..) and never even finished high school, and just because he got a GED of a certain score he was able to go.
I didn't do good my first semester because I took hard classes, namely math and science, but now that I have those classes behind I'm doing quite well, still not up to my high school GPA of 3.75, but I made the Dean's List last semester.:)

Wow, sounds awesome :D good luck.

What's the freshman enrollment going to be? Northwestern had 25,000 apps for 2,000 spots this year. I don't think it was that selective when I applied.

last fall I think they admitted 4,000 or 6,000. Last fall was the largest student population somewhere a little above 38,000

hooray for colleges bigger than some cities and possibly countries!

Do any of you ever have or had pre-graduation anxiety? Like your unsure of where you are going or what you will do once you are finished school? For some reason I have been thinking about this lately even though I still have a year plus of schooling ahead of me (at least).

I've been out 8 months and I still don't know what I want to do.

I have lots of anxiety about lots of things, what the fuck I'm going to do after college being the biggest one, of course. My parents expect me to get some awesome fucking high paying job, and I don't know if that will ever happen, or if I would even be able to find a job I could be content with that pays that kind of money.
