The Top 5 List Thread

Black Christmas is probably THE most genuinely scary slasher I’ve ever seen. It’s not all that gory but the killer is utterly deranged and, without spoiling anything, the ending is super atypical of the genre.

I still love all the absurdly gory black-comedy types of horror films (unintentional or otherwise) but I've definitely been more interested in checking out more atmospherically creepy horror films as of late, like the ones I included on my list, and basically a lot of "what you don't see" kind of shit. Anyone have any recommendations?

any. i have seen bits and pieces of them over the years, and i definitely saw one of the friday the 13th movies while drunk with friends, but i don't remember much. i remember someone putting hellraiser on at a party too but my attention wasn't on it.

my parents always talk about how much they shat themselves when they first saw nightmare on elm street together so it's kinda weird i haven't watched it.

yeah you definitely need to at least check out the first ones. Just make sure you watch the uncut version of Friday the 13th. The next two are pretty cool too(3rd ones my favorite). But i'm a huge fan of the series so you have to take that with a grain of salt :D

classic: suspiria, the wicker man, rosemary's baby, the tenant, don't look now

recent: the witch, the wailing, kill list, berberian sound studio, the alchemist cookbook

I'll add to the classic list: Les Diaboliques, House of Usher (1960 version), Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Woman in Black (1989 version), Black Sabbath, Repulsion.

top 5 horror movie theme songs...

Still creeps me out to this day. ^

HM:

IMO Carpenter's Halloween theme is probably the greatest and most iconic horror theme ever. Gives the film such a terrifying and tense atmosphere. (Didn't bother to mention Suspiria and Rosemary's Baby lullaby theme because NCFOW already did, but those are fucking great too.)
