The Whining and Bitching Thread

Even worse - I'm withdrawing from weed.

Oh no, hope that goes as well as it can. It'll do your brain good. IMO it's total horseshit that MJ is "good" for most people's brains.

I wouldn't say its good, but if I recall it does promote neuron generation in the brain. But then again, the brain becomes dependent after awhile, and when the brain becomes dependent on outside chemicals its bad news.

Live in tiny 1 bedroom apartment.
Electric bill the past few months (with cold weather) = ~$30
Electric bill last two months (cause they fucked up the month before) = $160

Probably one of the few times you'll hear me bitch about the cold weather. JESUS FUCK! My wallet is happy that the weather is finally rising above the single digits.

Totally understand I picked up a space heater and left it on awhile and my pockets had to pay. Fuck this winter.

RIP to my nails I had to messily cut off in order to learn guitar. Man do my fingers hurt that shit is hard!

I thought about posting this in the males and females thread but I figured this thread would be more fitting.

My entire dating history consists of trying to accept that the woman in question has different interests than me. Lately, I've been realizing that this never works out. That being said, I started talking to a crust punk looking chick that lives near me a few days ago. I'm almost as into punk as I'm into metal so I name dropped some of my favorite bands. She rose to the defense at first but I explained to her that I wasn't trying to be a snob about it. The conversation proceeded with her constantly changing the subject to her drug abuse. I'm willing to look past things like that if I like the person otherwise but, in this case, it dawned on me that this girl doesn't have any other interests and is probably more concerned with using the nihilistic punk image than actually being into the music itself.

Aside from her, I've been running into a lot of people into metal who take offense to my name dropping bands that they're not familiar with. This is a completely alien attitude to me because every band I listen to today was discovered based on recommendations. Are people offended by the idea that I know something about music that they don't? It's gotten to the point where music taste has become my least favorite topic of conversation.

It depends on who you talk to. Some communities treat music taste as some kind of competition of who likes the "best" music, which is in a large part determined by the opinions of the majority and/or the respected individuals in that community. Then there are people that listen to music simply because they like music. Those people are fun to talk to. They just talk about different kinds of music they like and what they like about it.

Yeah, I've been to bigger cities with actual subcultures so it's a lot easier to strike up a music discussion there. I was referring to two of my co-workers who are more casual of fans, I guess. One of them has a taste limited to a handful of bands and gets kind of snappy when I bring up stuff he hasn't heard. I've pretty much lost interest in initiating conversation with him about music. The other one has iffy taste but he's a little more open to new stuff at least.

I would look like a snob so I don't talk about music IRL. I really don't know what what to reply to "what music do you like" question so I don't look like a total cunt. Instead I cultivate my last.fm for those who're interested and I go here for music talk (that mostly just irritates me anyway).

I've learned to put out feelers before unleashing the full gamut when it comes to music discussion. I can figure out that someone listens to radio rock pretty quickly, and if that's the case, I restrict any conversation about music to classics and playing devil's advocate on popular artists.

But usually I'll make it easy and see if they're into an upper crust band like Between the Buried and Me or Sigur Ros. Something they've surely heard their friends talk about or heard in a movie. That way I can divert from the subject with a quick anecdote and get back to what they want to talk about.

Fuck, today sucked major ass. Long day, and then I come home to jerk off and find that my laptop has given me the blue screen of death upon booting up.
And I had all of my good porn on it, too...

Sad :(

Most of my friends around here are obsessed with jam bands and bluegrass and local shows. It's nice that they're so passionate about music - just wish it was music I liked
