Umm, I've got four USB ports free at the moment, can't see the what's the big deal.
Many computers have four USB ports total (laptops even less) and you can run easily out of USB ports with such quantities. Computer keyboard, MIDI keyboard, mouse, some storage and here you go. My laptop has two ports I have both occupied during normal "on the road" work - MIDI keyboard and sound card.
Yeah, of course iLok as de facto standard is much better than it might be with "every vendor has it's own dongle shipped with free USB hub".
To me, one of the greatest things with iLok is that most of my licenses are stored in one handy USB dongle that I can take wherever I want.
Yeah. It rocks for many of us, but ... For scheme which doesn't actually don't protect from piracy it should mess less with my systems (potentially) breaking it with every os update (obfuscated kernel level driver etc). And there are other 50% of users who don't care, they use their software in their single machine anyway.
