bosse de nage - ii

let the anti-american-black-metal hate party commence. this album fucking rules. san francisco band, reminiscent of weakling. plus you have to love some of these lyrics:

"Marie sits in a cage naked and filthy, her shame is available to everyone. Several men surround the cage and shower her with their urine. Wild animals are allowed in the cage one at a time for several hours a day. None can resist the odor of Marie's sex. The baboon caresses her breasts, the elk licks her ass, and the zebra enters her from behind. At night she howls with the wolves like a bitch in heat waiting for the sun to rise again. A gentleman offers Marie his hat. She shits in the hat and wears it for three days."

They totally ripped off my letter to Penthouse

TBOC from Poland, album Heart of Darkness has Filosofem written all over it in Arial bold 36, but interestingly the copycat factor does not make it pale at all. Solid as fuck!!

ok what the hell

almost everything i've really liked from 2011 is a profound lore release:

subrosa, loss, morne, the atlas moth, yob, [...] (and i've yet to hear the new altar of plagues)

what the hell, my top 10 list is going to read like a plr advertisement at this rate, help

no, this is embarassing

i was ok with it until the synth line came in at 02:41, that's just pure plagiarism

it's not so much filosofem as it is "hvis lyset tar oss" btw

and you didn't even touch their DM releases which are also all stellar.

Portal, Antediluvian, Disma ... etc.

I don't care, it's so aptly done, the album falters at no point. Who complains about the gazillions twin-sounding meloDM bands, etc etc.? You're right about Hvis Lyset, I don't know why, I had more Filosofem in mind for some reason.

anyone hear the new ARCH/MATHEOS?

* John Arch (FATES WARNING) - Vocals
* Jim Matheos (FATES WARNING, OSI) - Guitar
* Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT, ANTHRAX, FATES WARNING, SEVEN WITCHES) - Bass
* Bobby Jarzombek (HALFORD, FATES WARNING, SEBASTIAN BACH, RIOT) - Drums
* Frank Aresti (FATES WARNING) - Additional Lead Guitar

I don't care what Erik says, everything I have heard from this album fucking RULES so far.* Shhhhiiit! :kickass:

*granted Ive only listened to it all through shitty laptop speakers so I cannot discern too much "plastic", which I normally do not care for.

pretty much everything they put out is gold. i'm way behind on their releases this year but last year had arguably the 2 best american albums of the year (agalloch and ludicra) and a fucking shit-ton of other radness (stargazer, castevet, yakuza etc)

and yes, i am looking forward to the new leviathan which is gonna be on PL as well

the thing about "hvis lyset tar oss" is it is a product of the unique atmosphere of a certain time and place, of the state of mind and ideals of its creator at the time. it is a whole, and you CANNOT take the parts of it out of its time or its cultural and spatial environment. any attempt to copy it will just be pale and stupid

so i just don't know about this shit, man

copying "colony" is one thing, because it's just a series of riffz and whatever, but "hvis lyset tar oss" goes far beyond that and you cannot copy it by attempting to dial in the same guitar tone, the same synth sounds, and playing everything really monotone-like

it's wrong and sickening is what it is

but i respect your opinion :)

i have a list of 2011 things that may/may not end up on my top 10 list

almost certain:
burzum - fallen
morne - asylum
epheles - je suis autrefois
sólstafir - svartir sandar

need more listens:
virus - the agent that shapes the desert
altar of plagues - mammal
yob - atma
sorgeldom - vithatten
sorgeldom - ...from outer intelligences
loss - despond
the atlas moth - an ache for the distance
subrosa - no help for the mighty ones
mournful congregation - the book of kings
in solitude - the world, the flesh, the devil
while heaven wept - fear of infinity
primordial - redemption at the puritan's hand
steven r. smith - floor of the sky
anathema - falling deeper
40 watt sun - the inside room
explosions in the sky - take care, take care, take care
of the wand and the moon - the lone descent
year of the goat - lucem ferre
dornenreich - flammentriebe
tenhi - whatever that one was called

any glaring omissions here? lurch, i have tried listening to portal and antediluvian but i never find myself in the mood necessary to absorb such music these days. disma i thought was not that great actually

I knew that my point about melodeath was invalid :)

So yeah until some years ago I would also have considered the Burzum likeness beyond redeeming but somehow I’ve ceased to care, or at least to ostracize this kind of stuff radically. I think the dam broke when I listened to Kinstrife and Blood, which is essentially duplicating Dol Guldur-era Summoning down to the last keyboard tone. In a matter of minutes my mind raced from wtf stop this already to hey this is actually better than whatever Summoning has done since Dol Guldur. The moral dilemma is no less present, it is just no stumbling block anymore, as long as the music is good and actually stands on its own merit (ie. Not going as far as ripping off actual bits of contents)

whatever Summoning has done since Dol Guldur

fucking stronghold man

stronghold is so close to perfect (the only problem is "the shadow lies frozen on the hills" isn't so good)
