my dads sort of like that
shamed to say, i use to listen to such crappy mainstream "metal" (i can't believe it, i was such a korn fanboy), and back then my dad couldn't stand the music i listened to...
but ever since i started listening to better metal, he's started to appreciate it more... probably because my tastes matured
