What have the ND band members been listening to lately?

Lately I've actually been listening to alot of different stuff...none of it is getting a lot of repeat plays though, because I just haven't had the time. Some cds I've listened to recently are Rapture-Silent Stage, Entwine-Dieversity, Sentenced-The Funeral Album, Meshuggah- Catch 33, James LaBrie- Elements Of Persuasion, Omnium Gatherum- Years In Waste, The White Stripes- Get Behind Me Satan....

Older cds I've been listening to lately are Agents Of Oblivion's s/t, The Killers-Hot Fuss, Daniel Lioneye-King Of Rock and Roll, Norah Jones- Come Away With Me, Pyogenesis- She Makes Me Wish I Had A Gun, and the Katatonia Black Sessions boxset.

For me... Coldplay - X&Y, Porcupine Tree - Deadwing, Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor, Foo Fighters - In Your Honor, and Keane.

I listened the crap out of Porcupine Tree. Also saw em live and it kicked much ass.

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor. . . . How do you rate? :Smug:

The Nevermore is good. It took me a couple of listens to let it all sink in. At least for me, the first listen left me little to get hooked to, but now i'm starting to form my favorites. It's heavy, and a good CD. I need to give it a little more time before I fully comment.

Rapture-Silent Stage, Meshuggah- Catch 33

Thumbs way up to both of those. Anyone check out Losa's The Perfect Moment? That one really surprised me. Imagine some Tool leaking into a metalcore record, and there ya go. :tickled: Haven't heard any of your playlist Paul.

I'll try and check out the Losa cd, thanks.

I like the Rapture cd, it's pretty much what I expected from them, no big surprises but I don't think I really wanted any anyhow hehe I have all of their discs.

The Meshuggah....*sigh* where do I start? There's some interesting parts on there. That's about all I can really say about it. Which is basically the same thing I had to say about the last full length. I actually liked "I" better than "Catch 33" so far. I've honestly been a fan of this band since around '91, and I tend to lean more towards their "Contradictions Collapse" and "Destroy Erase Improve" sound, mainly because the songs were more like SONGS, they had hooks and interesting changes, while still being heavy and technical as all hell. I respect that they've changed and that they are a band who continues to experiment and try new things (even going so far as to record this album with a drum machine and guitar loops mostly), but I don't find myself getting that same charge out of listening to them now as I once did. Technical heavy craziness just for the sake of it doesn't appeal to me these days. *shrug* Still, "Catch 33" is worth the occasional listen for me.

I've been listening to Crotchduster-Big Fat Box of Shit, Alot of country music, namely Kenny Chesney and Big & Rich, James LaBrie-Elements of Persuasion hasn't left my cd player for months, Dream Theater-Octavarium(not to impressed with this one actually still trying to figure out if I like it or not.) Seven Mary Three- American Standard, and Mudvayne-Lost and Found.

i never saw what was so good about Meshuggah. aside for the fact that they can count...i don't see what's so great about them. i did like the none cd though. not my thing i guess. i have been digging on Mister Vertigo alot lately. if anyone is into Jeff Buckely, Foo Fighters or Radiohead they might enjoy them. i grew up with these guys, and i must say he has one of the best clean voices that i have ever heard. they are in no way metal, just great music. www.mistervertigo.com

anyone heard the new Tristitia? i can't find that cd anywhere.

For what it's worth, I've been listening to Nine Inch Nails "With Teeth", Sentenced "The Funeral Album", Paradise Lost "Seals the Sense", Alice In Chains "Dirt", and Faith No More "Angel Tears". I just got Sentenced "Frozen", Mourning Beloveth "The Sullen Sulcus" and Mayhem "Deathcrush" in the mail today, so I'll be listening to those repeatedly as well. :D

Meshuggah were once amazing to me. Not just because of the technicality of their writing, but the fact that the stuff was as memorable and catchy as it was. When you look back now at Contradictions Collapse, None or Destroy Erase Improve, I can see how alot of people might think it's no big thing but at the time it was very unique. It was like they were taking Voivod, Metallica, prog rock and industrial and throwing it all into a blender. I was very much into that sort of thing back then and I still do like that kind of direction, but now Meshuggah are just into this long dragged out monotonous crush of sound that like I said, is interesting at times, but it doesn't call for repeated listens by me. It's still pretty original though and I still give them alot of credit.
Being into stuff like Meshuggah just sort of acts as the balance to me listening to stuff like Cheap Trick or Foo Fighters, I like to have that mixture of opposites in not only what I listen to but also what inspires me musically.

I've been listening to a lot of Finish Gothic rock metal lately, they have about one million of those kind of bands from Finland.

I've also listen to Morningrise and My arms your hearse.. mainly because it was a long time since I heard those two albums. I completely forgot how great they sound :Smug:

Is there a new release of Tristitia after Garden of Darkness which has been released in 2002? I do have that album in digipak and it sounds great. Dark and atmospheric stuff like their old album One With Darkness. And it has an excellent cover artwork.

Pretty disappointed in this one after Train of Thought. For a full-fledged review, though, you guys probably know where to check. ;)

It seems to me that every other Dream Theater CD is a little bit dissappointing to me at first, like when I first heard Falling Into Infinity. I thought that CD was pretty lame, but now I listen to it frequently. 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence was a let down for me as well. My favorites are, When Dream and Day Unite, Awake, and Train of Thought.
