What if....?

Remember those Marvel comics of yesteryear with the natty "what if?" type scenarios ?

Well, what would have happened with the evolution of metal if -

1) Ozzy Osbourne had gotten into rehab following the release of Never Say Die, and had continued to write and sing with Black Sabbath?

2) Paul D'Ianno hadn't left Iron Maiden?

3) Dave Mustaine had managed to moderate his behaviour to stay with Metallica rather than being booted out?

4) Venom had been upfront about not being Satanists right from the start?

5) Varg Vikernes hadn't decided to go and stab up the Euronymous fellow?

6) Bill Steer hadn't fell out of love with extreme metal?

7) Demonaz hadn't fallen prey to tendonitis?

8) The extreme right wing had officially managed to make heavy metal illegal?

9) Nu-metal hadn't happened?

10) CD's hadn't been invented, and we all stuck with vinyll ?

EDIT: Added 6-10
Feel free to speculate...

1. Black Sabbath would have entered self-parody and blatant commercialism about 10 - 15 years earlier.
2. Maiden would be where Motorhead is now, Motorhead would be where Venom is, and Venom would be where Tygers of Pan Tang (maybe?) is right now.
3. Metallica would have stayed a metal band, although they still would have moved into more radio friendly territory.
4. Venom would become Kiss #2.
5. Mayhem and Burzum both would be lost in perpetual obscurity.
6. ?
7. There would still be Immortal? (Not so sure)
8. Other art forms, written/filmed/painted/etc. would be banned, and America would truly be a neo-fascist state. The personality cult of Regan would still survive long after his death.
9. Stoner/doom would have become trendy.
10. The world would be a lot more "far out" and "bitchin'".

(this thread made me think of a shitty creed song) thanks a lot UM!

What if Oystein Aarseth homicided Count Grishnach.

Less rubbish, boring Burzum and more awesome Mayhem?

What if Lars Ulrich had died instead of Cliff Burton?

What if Coroner had got the recognition they deserved?

Answer: Thw world would be a MUCH better place.

True. And Maybe Cliff would've picked another drummer who was actually able to play with groove, and maybe Metallica would've released another decent album or three.

With Cliff in Metallica the mightly Justice album never would have been released.

Of course it would have. And what's more it would actually have bass in it!

True on the bass part!

But i don't think that Cliff's influence on the band would have taken them in that heavier direction. I think it's fair to say that Justice is Metallica's Heaviest album yeh?

It's probably a bit darker than Puppets and Ride the Lightning I guess, but I dunno about heavier.

Fair enough, I've always seen it as their heaviest work, although it's quite often hard to define what constitutes 'heaviness'. I think the production gives a nasty sound though.

Forgot this one;
19. What if Ozzy and Sharon had never hooked up?

More interestingly, what if Ozzy had succeeded in strangling Sharon?

No wait, let me answer that. There would be no Sharon (which I think we can all agree would make this world a better place), Ozzy would be in jail and not have made a load of shitty records and an even shittier TV show with his annoying kids. Hell, he might not even have annoying kids!
