What's your favorite sub-genre of metal?

I'm sure I've already rehashed my opinions several times, but since they tend to change a lot, here you go again! :)

Black and death tend to be interchangeable as my top favorites, but black (especially Norwegian) tends to be at the top most of the time. As for death, my favorites are brutal death (Floridian or NYDM being on top) and grind-flavored stuff like Carcass and Napalm Death. I also enjoy a bit of melodeath, a small portion of power metal, and some underground thrash.

Also, I didn't list Viking Metal because that kind of falls into the Death metal category, does it not? It's just the theme of the music (and thus lyrics) that are different.

I would put Viking metal on as a choice because it's widely recognized as "viking metal" not just a form of death metal with viking themes. I'm also pretty sure that quite a few viking metal bands sound more like black metal than death metal.

Anyway, I picked Black and Death/Melodic Death.
