Serious genre question (no yuksters)

Yes, it would be a site not only with general discussion (that wouldn't be worth a new site really) but it will also host forums for bands in the vein of the ones that are more commercial metal in nature, more screamo/core. The two just don't mix well on this site.

Byrne you are correct in that they would simply consider it "metal" for the most part, so the way I would combat that is to make the site rank well (search engines) for certain bands and forums together (much like this site does). Even if they found this site, like I said, the header will contain links to the Ultimate Family of sites.

Just so you all see where I am coming from, I am looking to launch 4-5 Ultimate____ sites in the near future.

Well if Deron wanted to make some money or something...

Or I could do it. But I'd severely overprice to make a profit so you don't want that.

Speaking of which, we should totally get some UM shirts. That would kickass.

We could have personalized ones with our usernames on them. :)

shirts with little "hello, my name is _____" tags. and then we could have a big UM convention and we wouldnt need to spend the extra money on paper ones

seriously though, id buy one. and the personalization thing would be cool

I was actually toying with the new shirt idea recently since we changed the logo, figured it may be time for a cool design if people were interested?

While it WOULD be cool with the user name thing, for screen printing that would be impossible. I could give a free sparkle marker with each shirt order and you couldwrite your name on it? Haha. Oh I know! Bedazzlers!

Let me make a new thread for the shirt idea...

EDIT: Actually let me work on a couple design ideas then I will open up a site wide brainstorm thread.

ok, but just real quick, and i wont drag this off topic anymore. if users want their names put on, charge an extra 5 bucks and take it to a sports uniform shop where they can do that. it may take an extra couple days, but if people want it bad enough, then they can wait the extra time and pay the extra cash

Hm, Let me ask around. Obvisouly you wouldn't want it to be that vinyl sticker press-on that will shred up after a year. I do have a new web design client who embroiders shirts and stuff like that. I will ask him to see what kind of options would be available that would last as long as the shirt, and how much extra it would be.

As much as I didn't want to get baited by your reply...

That's the exact kind of attitude that is spawning the idea of a sister site. You don't have the courtesy to let other people express their love of those kind of bands because they aren't bands you consider to be good.

surely the music is a gateway to better things but for the majority of people they get stuck in that rut and don't want to experience anything new or more extreme than say, Soulfly.

I hear ya. Hopefully with the linking of the sites they will be exposed to other bands etc. - then again, like in the case of my friend, that's just what they like more so than what we may like.

Actually, that does make sense. There aren't many people that consider themselves metalcore fans. Or at least that I have met.

Most of my school are metalcore fans.

We should have the username and custom user title! It would be awesome. I'd buy one fo sho.

I've actually done some screen printing that involed personalized hoodies. But, yeah, let's save it for a different thread.

I think one problem that you may run into is indeed that listeners who belong to that scene aren't really self-aware when it comes to what they listen to. Most people can break down the music they listen to into simple tags like metal, prog, jazz, indie, pop, etc., even when these genre names cover huge areas of music. You'll need some buzzword that covers everything you mentioned before. I don't know if metalcore covers it. If you ask a kid who likes Korn, Slipknot, and Atreyu what he likes, I don't know if he could tell you. It might be hard to reach that audience for that reason.

As for other ultimate- sites, ultimate prog seems like an easy one to do. Classic rock would probably work as well.
