Just installed the 64bit one...

It lets you evalutate for 30 days without a serial so i download it to give it a spin with Sonar...

Well... When my 30 days are up i am 100% buying this. I love all the little improvements in it over XP!

WERD.
I got a sweet deal on an OEM version. I've been trying to do an upgrade, but it's not working so I'm in the process of backing up my pr0nz so I can do a clean install.

I really like how solid Vista feels. It's not a crazy big difference, but it's good enough to warrant a switch.

i've installed it and waited more than month but M-Audio drivers didnt appeared...

so if they appear i'll install it again)
now im sitting under XP

I'm heading out to buy a new laptop for mobile recording tonight, so it will be pre-loaded with Vista...I'll be trying to install my Nuendo 2.2 and Waves stuff as well as my presonus ASIO drivers for my Firepod on it. I'm nervous as hell thinking it won't work. I've had so much good luck with XP pro on my desktop system at home, I'm sick thinking something won't work right when I try to install it in Vista - particularly Nuendo. I only have my old 2.2 version and can't afford to buy something new... :(

why would anyone buy a brand new OS for their DAW comp?

first off vista is horrible for recording purposes, you are better off getting a mac.

sure it has some perks, but if you really use it more you'll see all its flaws. hell i didn't even need to use it that long, i just "test drove" it in a store and already despised it and its annoyances.

I have 2 GB of ram and XP in idle uses about 233MB of ram. with word, winamp, IM, firefox, and some other stuff running its a bit over 500MB.

and you are saying windows alone takes up over 700MB of ram?! thats insane!

I got 2GBs of ram as well, but I like to have a lot of headroom with my computer power.

and if it takes up over 6 times amount of RAM I can't imagine how much it is taxing the CPU, video, and other process power.

also you should know not to buy an OS from MS until after at least a year of being on the market. there are too many bugs and issues.

so what i'd like to know from those of you who have bought vista is if it is really giving you 6 times as much productivity and 6 times more value and power and stability. it is 250 bux for the equivalent of XP pro upgrade (which i got about a year ago).

nwright: buy one quick, there are still some out there with XP pro!

no such luck, dude. I've tried. I went looking around last week and the only XP loaded laptops were the low tier ones. I'm looking at a core 2 duo with 2gb RAM and all of them in my area are now Vista loaded. I can only go to chain stores (Circuit City, Best Buy or Fry's) to find a laptop with specific specs I want and none of them in the Indy area have core 2 duo's with XP anymore.

My old system did fine with only 1GB of RAM, so I'm hoping this notebook will be OK with 2GB, even with the increased CPU usage. If not, it'll be easier and less money if I can upgrade to 4GB (if it's even possibly on this laptop) than downgrading back to XP Pro on this machine. From what I've read, I'd have to wipe the drives clean to go back to XP Pro, and I'm not bold or savvy enough to try that....yet.

sucks.

So you are buying a brand new laptop, but you don't want Vista or are unsure of its compatibility with your shit. Easy its a BRAND NEW LAPTOP, i.e. nothing important on the hard drive so dump that shit and find some kid in college who can buy you XP Pro for 12 bucks download the SP2 patch and viola you're done. If you can't find a college kid I'm sure XP can't be that much right now and if it is get a cracked version or something from a friend, who cares if its pirated its fucking Microsoft I'm pretty sure they'll be ok. Also check Ebay they have XP for cheap and they are mostly New. Also if you feel you lack the skills to re-format your disk drives, search Google I guarantee you will find a ton of tutorials with screen shots to step you through it.

To the above statements about the RAM usage on Vista, if that is true about it using 700 mb IDLE thats fucking ridiculous, plus there is nothing that XP doesn't do that I need a OS to do. Plus i hear you can't play music that isn't licensed which is really gay, plus it tracks everything you do, idk Vista seems way to invasive for my style of computing.

I legally own XP pro disc but use the cracked corporate edition for the sake of simplicity when i do hardware changes and wipe windows

Just a heads up, Presonus hasn't made drivers for the firepod that work with vista yet. But you can use the generic asio drivers to get it to work, so you should still eb able to record.

 close

700mb in an idle state.. but iäve got 2gb so i don't even notice, haha

Ouch! :erk:
Close enough, so basically if you want Vista for your future DAW (cuz U know it's gonna have problems for a while) you need to go out & get a new PC that can handle more Ram.:Puke:

LOL does it really ask you if your sure you want to this & that all the time?
That commercial is retarded but still is it true?

I'm glad I got a legal XP Pro when I was in school.
If I had to by a new computer I guess I'd built a custom one with no OS on it to set it up with my disc.

So the general concensus is......do not upgrade to Vista and/or buy a new computer w/ Vista unless you got over 2 gb of RAM.

Wow......that does seem like a pain in the ass, I guess when I get me new computer in the next few months (*or sooner).....me and XP will be sticking together for a little while longer.:erk:
