Under normal conditions, Windows 2000 and Windows XP can use up to 2 GB RAM and Mac OS X and Windows XP x64 can address up to 4 GB in connection with Steinberg’s current Cubase/Nuendo versions.
I guess we were both right! ;)

Can someone please post a Minesweeper Screenshot? :notworthy Best timekiller ever, I'm curious what the new version could do for me.

Correction - apart from adding a few features (like a fucked-up disk encryption and some fucked-up attempts at security) XP Pro just makes it easier to clear things out. The same junk can be gotten rid of in both (unless it's not there in Home, in which case problem solved out-of-box) but rather than following a painfully easy step-by-step to click dialog boxes you're following a slightly-less-painfully easy step-by-step to put new numbers in the registry.

none the less the best option for DAW is a mac at this point.

I don't know why you keep repeating this.

My experiences with multiple Dual-Core G5s running OS X and ProTools 7.1 have been shite. On numerous occasions I have had them shit-out on me halfway through tracking a session.

It's down to the person. I currently run Nuendo and ProTools 7.3 on Windows XP Professional with absolutely no problems. That's because I know how to set-up and maintain my machine. Whether it's a Mac or PC it doesn't matter, it's about knowing to use either.

Back to the thread, I look forward to all the issues with Vista being ironed out, and all the driver manufacturers catching up. By most accounts, where Vista has worked, people have claimed improved performance over XP which is good news.

I've also meant to ask.. is there any issues with a 64-bit OS running standard 32-bit applications? You need to run 64-bit versions don't you?

The world will fucking end, dude. Seriously. Don't do it or God will kill a kitten.

Actually, AMD64 will support 32-bit processing at full speed (no emulation) but what you'll wind up doing in Windows is using what's called WOW64 (Windows on Windows 64 - ingenious, right?) so you can run them without problems.

So like, how about that new security flaw in Vista? You know, the one that when logged into an admin account, runs any and all setup utilities (program installers) with administrator rights, no questions asked, no UAC prompt?

Sounds great to me?

Oh no! Security problems in Windows!

I TOTALLY did not see that coming!

Not only that, I also didn't post earlier concerns about security on the grounds that it's Windows! Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
