Worst Guitar solo ever heard?

*bump*

just heard the shesmovedon solo from the bonus track for deadwing... maybe its because i know and love the original solo, but the bonus track one couldnt give me a worse reaction if it licked my arsehole.

Ill put in my 2cents and say Kerry King... he's gotta take the cake for worst solos from an actual "Guitarist" (as opposed to fred durst)....

Also Dave Mustaine can be pretty f'n bad at times... He reminds me of one of those basement guitarists who have practiced playing really fast for 7 years (lots of these in my scene) but never took a lesson to learn their notes or phrasing...just because you play something really fast does not mean noone will notice that it is completely disjointed and makes no sense...

Overall... I feel that all bands in the music industry should just hire Warren Haynes to play all guitar solos...

I can see where Ken's coming from, but I disagree. In my opinion, the solo sounds kind of out of place in with the rest of the song, but it's not a "bad" solo- certainly not the worst I've ever heard. Dream Theater has a history of inserting random technical wankery into their music. Sorta comes with the territory. I personally enjoy it.

Also, imo ITNOG is one of the better tracks of Train of Thought :headbang:

any solo on any Slayer album ever
Post of the year.

most by kirk hammett...save for a few on MoP and the unforgiven solo
I guess that's a difference of tastes, but I think Kirk Hammett has written some truly spectacular solos. Ride the Lightning (the song) is a perfect example, as well as Blackened, The Call of Ktulu & Dyers Eve.

But I'm also an avid Metallica fan so I guess I might be a bit biased. Still I don't think I would've liked them so much if there was nothing to actually attract me about them.

Slayer get more praise than they deserve because of the shock value factor. It gave kids in the 1980s something to piss their parents off with, same for Marilyn Manson in the 1990s, and I have no idea what now, because I am just so out of touch with pop culture.

Worst solo ever probably came out of some grunge song in the early 90s, although Pearl Jam had some pretty decent solos.

Some death metal solos astound me with their uncreative, random, jizz-everwhere sound. What little Suffocation I've heard is a great example, and as much as I love Cryptopsy's None So Vile, they could've easily gotten rid of half the solos and been better off with that album.

It's some of the fastest playing I have EVER heard. The problem? I'm listening to the groove and then out of nowhere Petrucci busts in with something that doesn't even sound like guitar. Wheoohwheeooowheeooowheeoo call the frikin ambulance because my ears just got raped. It made me laugh out loud the first time I heard it, doesn't fit the song *at all* and is clearly an attempt at showmanship instead of trying to write something tasteful. In The Name of Godawful.

That said, his solo spot with Theresa Thompson on SFAM Live is some of the best soloing i've ever heard.

Ron Jarzombek poops on Petrucci.

I sincerely hope that you aren't talking about Pierced From Within, Suffocation's best album, that contains excellent solos that go very well with the song structure.

Thrones of Blood is on the Pierced from Within album

I think the people who go on about kerry king being a great lead guitarist are the people who dont actually play themselves. A lot of his stuff is just:

whammybar-bend-tremolo pick-divebomb-tremolo pick-whammy bar -finger tap---- REPEAT

People just think he is great because "he's so metal"

Hanneman is so much better and some of his runs are really nice.

In slayers defence though, i would say that the majority are "anti-solos" i.e. they are not meant to be tuneful, they are meant to match the intensity of the song. The complete antithesis of what a solo is supposed to be and is intentional to a certain extent.

worst solos ive ever heard are probably from that old german thrash metal band called destruction.

Just woeful.

Love's Forever Changes is a good psychedelic album but the guitar solos are HORRIBLE.

Also, Faith No More's Be Aggressive has some quite shitty soloing.
