I'm rather borderline with some of the more popular albums around here. Things like Deathspell Omega - SMRC, Drudkh - Autumn Aurora, Hate Forest - Battlefields, Hammers of Misfortune - The August Engine, etc.

But 'N Crugu Bradului just kicks my ass. Guess it shows just how great Negura Bunget really is.

I still need to hear this Deathspell Omega. But I much prefer the Drudkh and Hate Forest album over NB, but that's not to say NB isn't a very good band.

In all honesty, I don't think NB have made ther masterpiece.

Negura Bunget has all solid 9/10 releases, with 'N Crugu Bradului the only one flirting toward 10/10. I'm may like Hate Forest more than Drudkh right now, but in the longrun I'm sure Drudkh will seem better.

I prefer DsO to all those other releases. Drudkh is good, but not great. I'm still getting into "'N Crugu Bradului." And I have yet to hear HF and HoM.

Hate Forest, Drudkh and Deathspell Omega are all extremely excellent. If you wanna connect with Hate Forest, turn out the lights so it's pitch black and put the cd on and let it take you over. With Drudkh, go to the mountains (or whatever nature element is available to you) and give it a listen. Both Battlefields and Autumn Aurora are excellent albums, but when put in the right environment are absoleutely mesmerizing. Deathspell Omega gets better each time I listen to it as does N' Crugu Bradului. I doubt I would attempt to rank these bands, especially until I've heard everything they each have to offer.

Absolutely correct, especially with Drudkh. Drove down from the Angeles Forest through some thick fog at 7am blasting that once, ohhhh man that ruled. :kickass:

i think drudkh is overrated, they do nothing at all for me, i actually find Aut.A rather dull

i'm not really sure what to make of NB's albums prior to 'N crugu, i've given maiastru a lot of listenings but it has yet failed to come even close to the greatness of 'N crugu, but it feels kind of like i'm missing something and i'm sure to give it more time.

battlefields sounds very interesting indeed and i'll probably get it sometime soon

I think "Autumn Aurora" is absolutely fantastic, one of the very best albums I've heard this year. I think people who like it would really appreciate the new Nargaroth, "Geliebte des Regens". They both remind me of each other somewhat, but the Nargaroth is even better.

I generally prefer mid-paced BM though over the faster stuff, which I think DsO is (might be wrong), so I haven't checked them out yet.

However, I must admit 'N Crugu Bradului is yet to really hit me. I have only listened to it a few times though. Haven't heard any HoM yet.

I'd rank them as follows: The August Engine > N' Crugu Bradului > Autumn Aurora. All are within the range between mere excellence and transcendent genius, however. Haven't heard the other two yet, though they will be part of a future haul...

Nah not really - it's just different strokes for different folks.

It's difficult for me to say, for example, that The August Engine is 'better' than 'N Crugu, just because I wouldn't have normally drawn the comparison. Put it this way, I like them respectively at the times I'm in the mood for them. Otherwise, yeah, 'N Crugu is probably slightly better than the Hate Forest or Drudkh IMO since they're all quite similar.

I also agree with Erik. I would list Maiastru Sfetnic higher than 'N Crugu. It is the war like anthems, or the animal-like cries, that 'disturb' me. I think it better represents the meaning behind the band name.

I like Drudhk, although I only heard Autumn Aurora from them. Definetelly a more simplistic version of NB.
HOM is in a different league alltogether as well. They are definetelly more listenable in an everyday type of situation. For example, NB is not something I would listen to in the car, but HOM is.

Also NB, becomes a different beast when you understand Romanian (like I do) ... the beauty of the lyrics and how they flow becomes more evident.

I really wonder where they will go with the next release. It is sure a very crucial one for them.

One of my best friends in 8th grade was a Romanian chick named Dacia Oprisanu (not an easy name to forget). She was fucking cool. I wonder if she listens to NB.

so yeah, Maistruia sfitnetic hasn't hit me yet. cool packaging though.

Maiastru Sfetnic takes awhile to appreciate. Dimly lit (not dark) atmosphere helps very much. The vocals.... creepy.

By the way, if anyone is still looking for the digi-book edition of 'N Crugu Bradului (with leaf etc), Aquarius Records managed to get the last probable batch in stock, before they resort to selling the regular jewel case version.

Wasn't someone here asking for this version? Anyway, www.aquariusrecords.org is where it's at.

i am just listening to 'n crugu and it hit me like it never did before ...
i mean, i heard it numerous times ... but the whole flow of it ... just hit me right now.

Negru is definetelly the star of this disc ...

its a funny album
for me the first couple of listens just passed over with a 'i think this is really good'
but when it starts to click and you hear all the other layers its pretty special
listened to it last night while doing the layout thier pages in metalworks
and like every other play there were parts I hadn't taken in before

a truely interesting band
need to check up on thier earlier gear

aqlsp need to sober up and get some work done....

I think I'll agree with you on that one. The thing about 'N Crugu that stands out to me the most is the drumming. Negru's sense of dynamics is simply amazing.
