"you just don't understand"

who did they sound like then, smart ass.

the solos + chord progressions are quite priest-y, the drums (especially the kick patterns) are VERY sin after sin-y, and King was, imhfo, a pathetic Halford immitator but totally Halford-y all the same.

IMHGDFO.

thats why i said "to an extent" when referring to MF.

i'll give that they were somewhat more "progressive" than similar bands of similar popularity at the time, but at their core they were still Priest worship (maybe worship is strong, but...), and at their best they weren't as innovative as more than a few NWOBHM bands that preceeded them.

so pfft.

Meh
MF and KD fuckin rock as
Dont care if they arent progressive, are generic or whatever the fuck else, just so long as they rock, and thats all that matters to me :kickass:

I dont think they did really sound like anyone else
can you really name another album that sounds like Abigail or Melissa?
I doubt it

edit - i know that wasnt adressed to me but...

just to clear this up, i actually do like Mercyful Fate (the musicians), at least their earliest stuff for sure, but i'm thoroughly unimpressed with King Diamond or the output of his solo band.

Which is fine, but I don't see any Halford cloning going on.

(Unless you count Tim Ripper Owens or that bald merchant from Primal Fear who looks like Ross Kemp)

Yeh fair enough, i must admit im not a huge fan of KD, more so of mercyful fate, from any era, but older stuff is better

Well Melissa and Don't Break the Oath are the King's best albums but Abigail, Them and Conspiracy are also stellar.
