Gender neutral pronoun isn't a bad idea in and of itself; if you're talking about one person but you don't know who the person is you can say "hen" instead of "they" or "he or she". I don't use it out of principle though because the people who invented it did it for the reason that "not everyone wants to be identified as a man or a woman".
