Anyone considering sponsorship for 2008?

realistically..it would cost 1,000's to get them over here. way more than a few people tossing in a 100 bucks here and there. Maybe Rob can toss some numbers out giving people an average what it takes to bring bands over to give people an idea how much it really cost.

Yeah, I don't mean to piss on anyone's parade, but we need to be realistic with the bands we are saying we would sponsor.

Any overseas band would have to be in the thousands, given airfare alone.

I think Rob said he would be posting soon an official announcement regarding sponsorship. Maybe this will include the ballpark figures of what it would cost to bring certain bands over that people have been requesting.

I guess too my point is that if there are only three people who are only willing to chip in $50 to $100 for an overseas band, chances are it won't be doable.

I should probably not even chime in with my thoughts on this until a formal announcement is released, as none of us know how widespread the call for sponsorship will go. (IE - Will it be an official press release to the mass public, or just an extension to folks here, and people they know).

Well...depending on how hungry a band is to come play here & if they're willing to bare the majority of the financial burden of the travel expenses, then it can easily be done.

If you can give us an estimate of a realistic community budget, then maybe we can approach the band if we feel there's a chance they'd go for it. And for a band like Elvenking, it's quite possible they might be willing to make any necessary sacrifices for a chance to play the US.

Shit, if bands are willing to pay Koshick $1000+ to play his defunct bullshit fest, then that proves bands are willing to make sacrifices...and I'd like to think that we've at least proven ourselves as not being a bullshit fest. ;)

Agreed!!!! But I am willing to bet that Pyramaze will play PP almost for sure.

Looks like PP already has their lineup for this year....and Powerfest is in April of next year......PP is in October of next year.....looks like Powerfest is BEFORE ProgPower....so we may still have a shot at getting them before ProgPower......as for the Lance King comment, it's OK, I could listen to Barlow growl and sing all night long :):worship: :headbang:

Sorry, I had to put Pyramaze back here...seems you guys got a little off track with that Journey talk.....

BTW....Jeff Scott Soto sounds good with Journey, but he's no Steve Perry OR Steve Aujerie ;)

And Testament would be KILLER if you guys could get them :kickass:

Pyramaze would be a perfect addition to the fest.
You have a great young band that deserves more exposure, plus with the addition of Barlow, it would certainly be a draw.

Speaking of Journey, I accidentally caught the Journey/REO/etc cover band HIGH INFIDELITY on Friday night. We were walking in downtown Glen Ellyn, and stumbled across the TASTE OF GLEN ELLYN when from a distance, I heard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" being played. As we got closer, I saw a schedule and saw it was HIGH INFIDELITY. I was like, "Damn, I have heard about these guys for years!!!" They were pretty decent if you are in the mood for that sort of thing.

I saw Hi Infidelity the next night @ Walter Payton's Roundhouse in Aurora. I love those guys and Dave (the singer) sounds about as damn close to Steve Perry as you can get. For cover bands, they would be one of the "must sees" in my opinion.

I tried putting together a sponsorship for Elevenking at this years PP. I believe if we could 3 or 4 people and it added up to around $1500 (400-500 a person), it would happen. I think the comment about them being willing to play the US is true and I feel they would be willing to sacrifice a little more to come over and play. Again, this is only my opinion.

OK.....I have a thought for a band......

PYRAMAZE

Some of you may remember Matt Barlow from Iced Earth....he is now the new singer for Pyramaze....and.....if Mr. Lance King shows up next year, maybe we can get him to come up on stage and do a few songs too :kickass:
I think they would be an excellent choice for Powerfest next year :headbang:
Just a thought....mull it over ;)

I think that would be a smart idea to go after Pyramaze. You'd have to do it quick though, because a certain fest down in Atlanta will almost assuredly go after them for next years event. I think Pyramaze with Barlow would be a solid draw.
